am i the only one who thinks they should be swinging that ball at the base of the building instead?
much longer swing, more force striking building, aiming at the parts under the most stress...
pulling the slack tight so there's only a tiny bit of swinging room and aiming at the top level seems really dumb.

This isn't my field so I'm not sure of the variables but I would think that you run a risk of the cable being engulfed by debris and possibly damaging the crane / operator

Seems they would be better off with one of these big bastards. It's what they use on tall buildings in Detroit.
Thing is the building is unstable so they are probably using the crane to try and stay as far away as they can so if/when it does come down they don't have to tarp the crane operator.

I am ready for this to be done. We in Collin County do not care about the crap Dallas messes up.

Very underwhelming and that crane operator is going to lose his mind trying to bring that thing down.
Bring in some RPG's

This would be my guess. Probably the reason they are using such a small object. Well, it appears small to me. But they stopped now and maybe changing strategies.

I have never operated a crane (I know, tinkertoys don't count), but if they were to take out some of the spaces between the 'windows' on the up side, about half way down wouldn't the weight of the building falling to the 'left' help bring it down?
What they're doing (in my possibly totally wrong mindset) by hitting the upper floor is making the building more stable by lowering its center of gravity.

I think the strategy was to probably bring down the building from the top down to the bottom. I don't think that they would want to bring it down the other way because then it's almost completely uncontrollable. With chipping away at the top, the pieces are much more manageable and you don't have to worry about an 11 story building falling with no control. This take could be completely wrong though. I have no experience in demolition.
At this rate though, they'll never get it done.

Ironically John Wiley Price took Dallas County govt down a black hole & city of Dallas govt has been trying to follow off & on especially overextending themselves with the Trinity River project with its initial grand promises to ensure passage of bonds back in 1998. Some nice things were built, but everything seems to have taken too long, cost too much, and some parts just cancelled including Trinity parkway. I think they were also hoping for olympics awhile back to bring in additional money to meet promises. When anything is completed now I don't even see it as part of original project.

I do not understand why everyone in town is freaking out about this.
My gf lives very close to the site and she was telling me one of her friends that’s an instragram whore went to take photos with the building in the background.
I just don’t get it.

Moved to a new position now.
They will get it down eventually working top to bottom but the center spine of that building is obviously tough. He wasn't making a lot of progress banging away with that ball.

They zoomed in on the ball banging away.
Wasn't even making a dent.
Maybe they are hoping to knock it over.

My god. I just drove by and there are at least 200 people out videoing this shite with their phone and just parking on the access road.

I just told my coworker that!
It looked like they have enough room to try and bring it down quickly. Maybe they'll put some explosive on a drone and fly it in there to speed up the process.
