I think they likely could attempt to get all of them in a day if they absolutely had to, but this way is much safer for everyone involved. It allows the divers to not overexert and to bring the conditions back up to optimal conditions. They are 8/8 so far so it seems like the approach is working.

8 lives saved. The rescue team seriously deserve high honors. This has to be historical.

I agree. At this point, the boys left in the cave have to have enough strength and supplies to spend 1 more night. If the visibility was limited before, it's got to be absolute slop after that many people stirring it up. Even the best divers can become disoriented and should someone have an issue in the middle of the route, it would severely complicate the situation.
A few hours of rest, hydration, tank fills, and allowing more water to be pumped would all be necessary to continue an effective rescue operation.
There is a cave system in Vortex Springs FL, and this is the sign at the entrance to the cave.
While I can understand the lure, diving in caves is some scary shite.

Two times I was the most scared. Diving in a cave (didn't go very far in) and diving at night. These boys have been in my prayers.

I'm thinking there is a hard stop for the MENTAL aspect for the rescuers.
Cave Diving is beyond technical and adding in the stress of trying to save a bunch of kids can push someone to take a risk they normally would never do.

And this Thai cave has 0% visibility in the water.
Said it's like diving in coffee with cream.

I did a very minor excursion into a MOUTH of a cave, and as soon as the silt got kicked up, my little red warning light went into overdrive and I aborted the down time in the cave and got the frick out of Dodge.
Cave diving is not for me. I will happily go through tunnels but caves, no.

For me it was the vertigo. Some silt gets stirred, you lose sense of which direction is up/down. Exhale and watch your bubbles roll down your shoulder and towards your feet... it'll screw you up.
The anxiety of being down there with limited O2 has you checking your gages 5x more than normal. Your breathing becomes sporadic. Stress doesn't even begin to describe it.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for everyone helping with this.

The two times I've been diving I was content just parking on the sea floor and watching everything swim around me, while remaining very close to the boat
If I swam around it was in a circle over coral while remaining close to the boat.
Would not dream of going into a dark cave.

I can absolutely see that!
Hell, I got vertigo just hanging off a wall during a night dive (new moon)for a bunch of minutes with no reference of up or down.
I can't imagine how easy it would be to get turned around in a cave. You'd HAVE to rely on your bubbles alone.

Correct. They are practically diving in sludge. I can't imagine pulling yourself along a rope, blind, and hoping you come up on the other side. Not for 4 miles just to get to the boys.

i guess i'm looking at it from a parent's side. Can't imagine being the parents of the very last one to get rescued.
The distraught parents of 12 Thai boys, who have been stranded in a cave for weeks with their soccer coach, have not been told whether their children are among those rescued, a family member told CNN.

How did the one diver die? I read "lack of oxygen". Did he get lost?

His tank ran out because it wasn't filled properly... at least that's what I heard.

What's the reason for this?
