Seriously?

A white dude brings watermelon to eat at work and he gets fired because they thought it was a joke since he was the only or one of the only white dudes working?

I'm glad he didn't go out and pick up Popeye's for lunch..

I can't believe some of the AA firefighters were offended. Especially since he just brought it in as good to share.

One of the things I miss most about the military was our ability to rip on each other's stereotypes (to a certain extent of course) without everyone getting knotted up. Of course it was with the close knit group, not random everyday folks you rarely interact with.

If we are going to be fair here.. The same thing happens on both sides. If there was one black dude at your job and he brought in hummus would anyone be offended?

I wouldn't be offended, but I sure as hell wouldn't eat it. Can't stand that hippie shite.

I am buddies with some Special Operations guys and go out with them on occasion. They all (black and white) rip the frick out of each other over race and laugh their asses off. As not part of their group, it makes me uncomfortable as frick and that bugs the shite out of me. If they are good with it, it really shouldn't bother me at all. The difference between me and whatever POS SJW started the issue in the OP is that I know it is their business and I just keep my mouth shut.

I thought that's just how dudes, in general, interact with each other. Everyone fricks with each other about whatever the obvious thing is... that you can mess with them about.

I've been on a job before where everyone would rip on each other for whatever reason and one day HR called a meeting telling everyone in the department I was in that there are some who do not feel comfortable with the way co-workers treat each other, etc.. There was this dude who was religious and never cussed or anything. So we thought it was likely him, but yeah, whoever complained had to be some racist jackass who thinks everyone sees the world as he does. "A white man bringing a watermelon for a bunch of black people to eat? I bet he is laughing at us when he leaves work".

Discussed this "case" with my very white (and apolitical) wife.

She decided "food based" racism was fricking retarded because just about everyone loves some good fried chicken, collard greens, and watermelon.

While I do think that racism is a problem, this doesn't really seem racially motivated at all.

It was a tradition for new people to bring in food for everyone, and this guy just wanted to share some watermelon with his new coworkers.

This guy is a firefighter. He isn't rich. What's a good tasting type of food that can feed a station full of hungry arse men and not cost you a ton of money? Watermelon fits that criteria. I can't stand this PC culture.

I wouldn't be surprised if the guy asked his training classmates what to bring to the station.

If loving fired chicken and watermelon is wrong, then I don't want to be white.
