I just heard there were only 4 CT guys on board. Just heard they found another one. Not sure if true
Posted on 4/14/21 at 1:04 pm to TigerPete06
I just heard they found one alive in the water and there are 2 more still on the boat that are alive and communicating with search and rescue. They are trying to figure how to get them off the boat

On this boat the stairs are inside the living quarters. Prayers for an air pocket
This whole thread just hurts my heart. Imagine stair placement being life or death for someone.

I'm sorry, I've tried to read quite a few pages of this thread but I know I've missed some. Are they on the actual boat that sank, isn't it fully under water? How are they still communicating or were there safety rafts they got on while it was sinking and are still stranded?

Where does that put the official count? It has kind of been all over the place.

They are likely in a water tight area or air pocket...

quote:Forgive my ignorance, but to rescue them if they are trapped in an air pocket...would that entail trying to get the boat back upright, or would it be a case of having divers go in and cut an opening? I imagine that pressure is the major factor in the second scenario and might render it impossible.

So in all that's 1 dead, 7 rescued, 2 pending rescue, and 9 unaccounted for?

Damn, thanks for the reply. Whatever it takes to save them but that sounds terrifying. Hope next bit of news is good news.

Reading this I was like damn I don’t know if that’s a relief of not. The other option would have been quick but seems like this way you’re counting the hours worrying about oxygen.
Hopefully they get them out

Oh ffs. That was a MLB that I saw in a picture near the rig. Those things are self-righting and basically unsinkable if properly battened down.
That plus 2 45 foot RB-M's from the Grand Isle Coast Guard station. Similar to these:

If that actually happened, that's inexcusable. That is precisely what those boats are built for and what the crew is trained for. Unexpected shite in bad weather and bad seas and no visibility.
FWIW, what's posted about the Coast Guard having to suspend work last night is a rumor. I hope it's not true. But if it is, I'm sure that even the US Coast Guard is limited by what they can do when they run out of daylight.

Being stuck in one of these in near total darkness (probably total darkness last night) is probably horrifying. I hope they can rescue those guys.

Hopefully those legs dug into the sea floor and keeps the boat relatively stable during the upcoming weather.. couldn’t imagine riding out an air pocket hoping for the best while rescue operations will likely have to be postponed.

The guy rescued from that boat off Nigeria was over 100 feet below the surface IIRC. So it can be done. Anyway, I assume they are in communication so it may be as simple as cutting throough from the surface. Depending on the size of the air pocket, CO2 buildup may become a problem relatively quickly so obviously they want to do this asap.

Search area is under another marine warning today with another nasty line about to head offshore.

I'm getting more and more pissed off that this isn't major national news.

Seems like:
6 rescued alive
1 confirmed dead in the water
1 confirmed alive in the water
2 confirmed alive in the vessel
So if 19 were on board, then 9 unknown status

Fox has been hitting it every hour.
No one is giving updates, what do you want them to report on?
