From the chatter on the radio,
What’s the word on the horn today? Are they grid searching or still trying to acess the vessel? Is it still partially submerged or sunk?

Which FB page? This has a knot in my throat and such a heavy heart for those affected.

There’s more pics on the Coast Guard Heartland Facebook page

#HappeningNow We are currently in the midst of a mass #searchandrescue case off the #Louisiana Coast. The crew of the pre-commissioned U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Glenn Harris, one of the new 154-foot Fast Response Cutters, U.S. Coast Guard Station Grand Isle and multiple #goodSamaritan vessels rescued 6 people from a capsized commercial lift boat. We've got U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile and #USCG Air Station Corpus Christi aircrews helping search as well. #Ready, #Relevant, #Responsive

The 2nd picture in that link just made me swallow hard. As someone who has worked in the GOM since college and been on radios with individuals during emergencies and lost of life accidents this makes me sick to my stomach.
Pray for those guys.
If that picture is during the time those guys were holding on....they watched thier rescue drive away.

The wording of the tweet was confusing, now I dont know if it was from now or yesterday.
"The coast guard releases new photos of the capsized boat near Grand Isle yesterday. News Conference scheduled for 11 am..."

Were there other uscg boats on location? If it was only them and a helo, this is impossible for me to believe.
One of the videos somebody linked showed a seagoing cutter out there. But regardless, any CG vessel refusing to go out is not a good liok at all. If true, which we don't know if it is.

This just doesn't sit right if what the previous poster said about the incident yesterday did happen.

It likely happen so fast the captain didn’t have time to sound the general alarm and if did not sound the general alarm the guys in their bunk rooms never had a chance and they are probably still in the boat
Either that or the captain decided to jack the boat up slightly to get the hull out of the water. Procedure for jacking up calls for all personnel on board to go up top on the wheelhouse level with life jackets on. With the high winds, this may have not been realistic so the captain just begins to jack up the boat with his crew & third party members still in the quarters/bunks/galley. Once the boat flips, the personnel inside becomes trapped.

I just commented asking if it was true that they left some men hanging on last night.

I hear what you’re saying but the bit was underway and you can’t just stop anywhere you want and start jacking. There’s pipelines and other procedures you have to follow before you can jack down on the sea floor.

Some dumbass just commented, “Send in the Cajun Navy”.

It doesn't site right with me, personally, period.
You don't toot you're own horn in the midst of a SAR. The stories afterwards do it for you organically.

Not familiar with these vessels but doesnt that all go out the window in a situation like this?

Yes there pipelines all over the sea floor but the captains on liftboats have maps in the wheelhouse of the existing pipelines that run along the Gulf floor. Liftboats jack up all the time during rough conditions while in transit. If you've worked on & had to travel on these vessels, at some point you would have experienced this. The captain won't do a full lift. He will tap the legs down to get the hull out of the water & not do a regular preload like they have to do when a boat gets on location.
