quote:

Corporate income taxes only generated 3.3 percent of state and local tax revenue in fiscal year 2020. They are also among the more volatile sources of revenue for states.

Sales taxes are a significant source of both state and local government tax revenue.

Lots of posters here that think a national sales tax is a good idea

I've had this discussion before on these boards.

Governments need money and honestly it doesn't matter to me which tax mechanism they used to get that money.

The thing people should be concerned about is 1) reducing government spending which leads to 2) reducing total tax revenue.

Drive spending down and allow governments to collect 5% extra for surplus and savings.

Even if you go to a national sales tax... you are still going to have 87,000 IRS auditors showing up at every mom and pop business making sure they are collecting and remiting the correct amount.

87,000 new IRS auditors happen because of the current makeup of our elected "leadership".

Gotta change that.

Yes but that doing income tax is obnoxious and time laborious. Extremely so. Two, I understand property and sales tax. But frick off with dipping your hand into my pocket directly. Tax my activity of purchases, not income.

Better a business than an individual. Government going to government. Might as well limit it.
