Check engine light goes on and off intermittently....

I filled up at the Valero in the Albertsons parking lot at Perkins and Essen.
This is where I think I filled up my last tank before the problems started, although I think I got a few gallons at Exxon on Perkins and College early last week too.
I drive a GMC; my husband hasn't had any problems with his Toyota (YET!), but his friend who told us about the possible bad gas (and only uses Exxon gas) has a Toyota and got the tip about the gas from the Price LeBlanc service department.
I think the stuff we put into the tank which seems to have cleared it up so far was Sea Foam gas treatment. Like others have said, it would be really difficult for me to let the car sit for a few days while we make sure there's nothing else going on. I'd basically have to rent a car.

Don't mean to be a dick, but was the "unleaded" part necessary?
Maybe as opposed to diesel?

Exxon at Staring/Highland yesterday. So far, so good.

Use HEET from parts store to remove water.
I would contact station and document incase of longterm damage.

One of my cars did this last week and it went away after a day or 2. Right before reading this thread, my buddy called to see if I could run the codes on his truck because it's running like crap.

Same thing happening to my truck last two weeks or so. Check engine light comes on.

Rental car in New Orleans last week. Check Engine and Traction Control lights came on and car would die at every stop light. Rental car company came and swapped it out.

Anyone truth to this?
Being reported that customers who have purchased gas from Race Trac and Murphys have experienced check engine light issues and true engine problems.
Had this problem last week with my Jetta.
Put Valero Gas. Southpoint said Valero gas is causing a lot of probs for them
Two days in a row it wouldn't start, would like click and then start on third try. The second day it did this, the engine light came on so I brought it to the service dept.

Unleaded Gas
This is why I only fill my car up with 100% octane booster. Takes a long time to put a whole tank in with those little bottles, but it's worth it.

Don't want to rant too much, but I work for a oil and gas distributor. Basically all distributors pull off of the same refinery racks and name brand gas (shell, chevron, exxon, etc) gets a additive injected into it during the loading process. Unbranded gas (racetrack, murphy, valero, etc) contains just the standard gasoline additive. There are multiple refineries in the baton rouge area. Exxon-baton rouge, Placid-plaquemine, Motiva - convent, Marathon - garyville. There could have been problems with the exxon rack in baton rouge causing the problems. Under normal circumstances this does not happen, it normally is the distributors fault (i.e. diesel put in gas tank, 87 octane in 93 octane tank). We dont pull gas from there so we haven't seen anything on our end. If your car is messed up the distributor to contact is likely Lard Oil or Retif Oil, they are the biggest Exxon Mobil distributors in the area. However, all brands pulled from that refinery could be bad.

So...does that mean that different brands of gas could all come from the same tainted supply?
Any suggestions on where to get "good" gas in BR?

Yep. All brands have "exchanges" at exxon baton rouge. Apparently this morning marathon shut down their exchange because of known problems. Its kind of a Russian roulette at this point. It just depends on what refinery that certain gas station was filled from. Maybe try asking what distributor it came from.

Should Costco in NO be a safe bet?

New orleans area gas is likely pulled out of a new orleans area refinery. You should be good to go, but who knows.

I heard it makes the valves stick. Once the gas is
drained out of the tank, put new gas in, good to go.
Of couse before the labor charges ....
Heard about this last week-- hopefully all the bad gas
is gone from that batch.
