Is it really happening only on Toyotas? That's some interesting shite if so.

No, not sure where he got his information, but it has happened to my GMC as well.

Any chance this could be avoided by getting only premium gas for a while?

A few years ago my car was doing the same thing and I brought it in and 2 fuel injectors were bad. I asked the dealership what would cause it and he said that it was probably bad gas from a Murphy's or Race Trac. After that I stopped buying gas from there...I don't really think it makes a difference though since all these people are recently having problems.

i was incredibly pissed..i think it ended up costing me $600+ and its too much of a coincidence that right after filling up at some no-name station in the middle of nowhere TN the car flips out.

i know it was the goddamn gas but i had 2 small kids to get back home and it was late on a sunday night.

not exactly easy to go back & make a fuss when i wasn't even sure what the deal was.

very frustrating experience.

we really are at the mercy of the random gas station you stop at that the fuel isn't going to frick your car up.

Yeah thankfully my extended warranty covered it, but it was still very frustrating. The check engine light kept coming on and then it said no traction and it would shudder like it was going to kill when I was driving. I was scared to drive it the little time I had to so I could get it checked out.

My son came home 2 days ago and borrowed my car cause his Rave 4 check engine light had come on and was driving badly. Will need to investigate this bad gas thing. Thanks OT

My car started sputtering bad last Friday. I killed the engine to check to see if a spark plug wire came loose or something like that. Didn't see anything under the hood so I tried to crank it again and it would start sputtering and kill after 2-3 seconds. This happened several times, then finally it started again although it ran like total shite for about 5 minutes. Since then, it's ran but there are several times that it is very hesitant. I figured it was bad gas. I put two gallons of premium gas and a bottle of Lucas Fuel Treatment and it seems to have helped.

The night before, I filled up at the Valero in the Albertsons parking lot at Perkins and Essen.

Unleaded Gas

Don't mean to be a dick, but was the "unleaded" part necessary?

Exxon

Bout a month ago filled up at the Exxon on Acadian/Florida. Check engine light came on later that day, had been going on and off for about 2-3 weeks. The diagnostics in my car pointed to an EGR valve replacement so maybe the gas was doing something to cause that light to come on. Didn't end up replacing the valve after 2 hours in the freezing rain fiddling with it . Light turned off once the weather got warmer and got a new tank of gas.

I've been having the same issue with my 4runner for about 2 weeks. I thought it was because something like an injector or fuel filter needed to be replaced. It started after I filled up but I have since filled up at a different gas station and the problem still exists. I'm in S Carolina. Could this be a nationwide problem?

You'd most likely have your check engine and traction controls lights on.
