I rebuilt an automatic transmission once without buying any special tools. Saved myself about $4,000 for about 4,000 miles, when the whole case split from bellhousing to transfer case
Worked great till then though.

Personally, I actually like to learn how to fix shite the right way. You learn how something works then if there is another problem its easier to troubleshoot. In theory at least.
Does anyone know someone who, if someone told you they are fixing something, you know there is a good chance they will not fix it or do something to make it worse?
I know someone like this.. An older fella. He is extremely cheap as well so when anything goes out he will spend weeks trying to fix something and if he can't he will just do without it because.. Well I think the son of a bitch doesn't like to admit he wasn't able to fix it.

This is how I fix any software/IT issue that my family has ever had.
frick around with until it works again.

I fixed a broken door handle on an auto today. Watched a YouTube video on how to fix it without buying a new part.
After 5 minutes with 1 screw and a zip tie, done.
