DOT has not mandated the form or amount of compensation that airlines offer to volunteers.

So in essence United could have gone above $800 but they chose not to.

So Junky, in his infinite wisdom of the industry, didn't know what he was talking about?

Shocking

Well I agree they are a shitty company and I'm not scrolling this whole thread to find specific articles. Was looking to see if it was proven that they were actually in the wrong.

A lot. In short they kicked off and had the police beat up a passenger for terrible reasons. Mostly money.

I can say with 100% certainty that I will never be punched in the face then drug off an airplane. Why? Because I would have got off when they asked me to

Isn't that why United called the cops? To be the muscle and do the dirty work?

Oh wow, you got me - he didn't want to volunteer - so how does this even relate? Others didn't want to volunteer also, so what makes him so special? The situation came to a head.

No the called the cops to enforce the law, if you have a problem with that I can hope to see a video of you getting man handled in the near future.

I can link the articles later when I'm at a computer if you can't find them.

Basically it comes down to what boarding is considered. United's own policy is violated if the court would decide that being on a seat in the plane is boarded.

Same with federal law I believe.

This will never get through court. United is going to settle to get this out of the public as fast as possible

Yea, that's the point Radio.

You up the compensation until, :gasp:, someone does volunteer. It doesn't matter if he's the one who accepts it.

It really wasn't hard to comprehend. Jesus

yep, they do this from time to time...pilots sometimes have to call cops to remove passengers from the plane...especially drunk ones. Guess what..you probably didn't know that because they never resisted the police and made headlines.

dont worry about the articles. It'll be settled without me readying them. And I agree that this will be settled for a handsome handout, although I wish it wouldn't.

Ugh what? There have been all kinds of videos of passengers getting dragged off planes recently for all sorts of reasons. And most of the time no one gives a shite bc they are drunk, screaming, yelling profanities etc.

But no one did. So this hypothetical is of no use. Again, what were they to do - offer someone a free, paid vacation, hotel and all, to San Diego? Come on.

Ok. If you think the police were there to do anything but physically remove him from the plane, I can make you the same offer I made to those buying UAL shares today- Colorado oceanfront property.

If you want to know why I think United is in legal trouble, it's because nowhere in their contract of carriage does it say that IDB policies apply to people who are already boarded. Once UAL took his boarding pass at the gate and he assumed his seat, IDB goes out the window.

Now that sucks when you're UAL and need to get 4 people to Louisville for a flight. So UAL tries to bribe passengers to get off the plane voluntarily. When only 3 get off they try and coax the doctor to involuntarily get off. Mind you he has no legal reason to do so. He's boarded already. He says no. UAL then calls the cops and says they have an unruly passenger. Cops come on and he still refuses to leave. So they knock him out and drag him off.

You should ask yourself what crime did he commit to get dragged off like that?
