Once the airline makes the choice to boot passengers, you will lose if it is you.

Meh, judging by the current climate, it's not the passenger that's losing the most.

Hey dumbass...

The United employees he got bumped for are considered standby ticket holders if they are flying on company passes.

Very good point. Could make an argument he had his arse beat for holding out for the higher amount. Sell high is a free market fundamental.

Hopefully the bone head CEO doesn't pay him so we can see this settled in court. I would love to be on that jury.

Why pay him? This is the exact problem with America, paying someone for acting foolishly. Everyone should know the terms of you ticket on any airline. He obviously didn't. He isn't entitled to anything except a free rebooked flight.

quote: So my question for Junky is this: if the airline agreed to pay these amounts in it's contract, then threatened said passengers with the hard way if they didn't agree to lesser amount than in said contract- on what ground did they pull this guy off? As soon as they started involuntarily selecting passengers and he wouldn't move. As soon as you do not obey the flight crew, you are considered unruly.

Just because its in the contract and legal, does not make it good business or good PR. I DGAF whether they had the right to do it, they should never have done it. I don't care that the contract is 400% max payout, I guarantee you if that is the max there is also something in the contract that allows them to offer more.

The fact of that matter that you can't argue with is that it makes absolutely no sense for the airlines to physically remove someone from a flight for less than $2,000.

If for no other reasons the plane was full. What if the guy didn't get knocked out initially and left kicking and punching? There's kids and other people there. I'd be furious if they tore a guy off a flight I was on for something like this. Its simply dangerous.

I hope so. Even better would be filing a criminal complaint against him for tresspassing. The CEO, in addition to not paying him, should go after this guy criminally. Keep it in the news for as long as possible. It's not like the CEO did anything wrong here, correct?

Exactly. He could have simply been saying I want more money, and they drag him off.

True, but not if the employees are needed in the next city for work.

decided they had to remove four passengers from the flight to accommodate crewmembers who were needed in Louisville the next day for a “downline connection.”

Its called a business decision. Why allow someone to have a seat and then kick them off? If you don't think this is going to at least cause some minor changes I think you are being ignorant.

I understand overbooking and I don't have an issue with that. Normally if you are overflow you don't have a seat number and must check in at the gate.

If they airline can simply throw you off your seat at anytime, that is bad business. It disincentivates people from flying on shorter trips. With rules like this it makes driving 5 hours seem better and better than flying 1 hour and getting to the airport 2 hours early.

Just Google the doctor's name. They are making up for it with a new smear campaign.

You could make the argument the CEO isn't keeping a fiduciary responsibility to his stock holders at the moment .

They still aren't considered paying customers and the rules about bumping passengers are different when you are removing them in favor of non fare passengers.

That's BS. I've taken vouchers before when I had absolutely nothing to do the next day. But other days I've turned down $800 vouchers because I did.

Its not our right to judge this guy on why he wanted to get where he needed to go. It doesn't matter the amount, frankly he was chosen and I guarantee everyone else on the flight knew about the $800 voucher and turned it down also. He was just chosen so the spotlight is on him.

While I am not disagreeing... We are a nation of convenience, and when flying is easier, we accept certain conditions to get there.
