Anywhere in the northeast. People suck up there

Even west coast liberals seem generally nice except the few moonbat crazies but northeasterners are miserable people

In general, I've been around plenty of friendly people in California cities.

I know I used a pretty big brush but the number of frickwads you gotta go thru to find a friendly person makes it not worth it.

had to pay $.10 extra for ketchup at a burger place there. Not for each extra condiment but for ANY condiment. Oh, you want something to dip those fries into? That's gonna cost you.

That’s due to high taxes there and trying to keep menu prices competitive

After that, Washington D.C. is pretty unfriendly. I've found that it is very who you know, where did you go to school cliquey there (e.g., "Hello Jack, I went to Woodberry Forest Prep, University of Chicago Undergrad, and William & Mary law after." "Hi Tom, impressive. I spent my youth at Phillips Exeter, went to Cambridge, and interned with President Obama before attending Yale Law. Oh, and by the way, I finished top five in my class."

my wife and in laws are all UVA/W&M/Woodberry Forest grads.

I went to MS public schools and LSU for undergrad, so I'm quite the outlier.

The most obnoxious people that I've encountered have come from Philly and at the state level it's NJ. Hands down. I don't know if it's a matter of friendly vs. unfriendly as much as just awful human beings, but they set the standard.

My wife's friend grew up in Jersey. Her parents retired to Arizona recently. The mom went back and took her car to the car wash.

Mom: "Put the windows up before you wash it"

Jersey attendant: "No shite."

Mom thinking: "I miss this place". And she really did miss it

Probably PNW.

If you're not slowing anyone down or acting like an idiot I've found people in NYC, Boston, DC, etc. to be anywhere from neutral to cordial/welcoming. As others imply, it's more about "knowing how things work" than hostility for the hell of it.

PNW is beautiful and I actually like Seattle and Portland fine, but there are tons of both negative people and extremely socially awkward people (and thus they come off as negative) in those cities. Even when they travel you'll see it.

I know there are some annoying southerners who need to talk to everyone one they meet and will take it as an insult if you don't want to converse with them, but if you have a minor panic attack when someone greets you getting on an elevator, that's on you.

In my opinion, the entire state of Pennsylvania contains the rudest, most unfriendly people.

Western PA has very friendly people. Lived in PA for a year (had the entire state of Pennsylvania as a sales territory), and people around Pittsburgh are very friendly. The more east you go though, the bigger assholes they become, with them finally collapsing into their own assholes when you reach Philly. Those are some real assholes over there. I hate that fricking city, but love Pittsburgh.

I agree. I actually found the service industry folk in Austin to be pretty unfriendly, but i guess that's the case for a lot of tourist party towns.

Any city, Cali

Not my experience at all.

I went to LA back in January. I'd never been to Cali and had plenty of preconceived ideas of how bad it would be.

I was totally wrong. EVERYONE I met there was super nice. I was pleasantly surprised.

Washington DC. Standard greeting is not who you are/what’s your name, but rather what you do and where you went to school.

Some of the most superficial people live in that city.

It's funny that you have to pop into every thread to try and defend that. I guess that's what happens when your identity is so tied to where you live

Maybe the Somalis and Kenyans were rude but the real Minnesotans are some of the friendliest people you will meet.
