I don't know if you meant to make a joke about toes and toenails here, but you did and it was funny

have a buddy that’s an endodontist and you want to talk about making bank. The problem is they deal with people at their worst.

Same. I was on the phone with my endodontist buddy the other day. It was like 7:55 am and he was sitting in his Tahoe outside his office ready to go crank out another 6 root canals at $1200 a pop.

And the last thing he said to me was: "I swear to God if my first patient hits me with a root canal joke, I'm probably going to drive my elbow right through his face....talk to you later."

but still make pretty good money, probably around 130k-140k a year

Average salary for a Podiatrist in my city is $220. About half of what an Ortho doctor makes. Good pay but not as good as the MDs.

About 15 years ago I paid 90 bucks for cortisone injections in my foot.
Shot me in three places. Didn't take any time at all.

I got a knife and dug it out. After the screaming subsided and I regained bipedal mode, it healed nicely. A true story. I can still smell the peroxide.

I always thought of podiatrists as "real" doctors.

I think even the 25th percentile annual income is probably pretty high for a DPM... maybe somewhere between $175,000 / year and $200,000?

And I think we’re done here.

Wasn't that a treatment idea at one point? Introduce maggots to eat dead tissue.

Yes it is called maggot therapy. It supposedly has great surgical results because maggots only eat dead tissue and produce a broad spectrum of antimicrobial chemicals which there is no bacterial resistance to yet. The only problem is that in patients that still have feeling in the area (obviously my patient did not have feeling) the sensation of the maggots moving is enough to drive them crazy.

Years ago I had problems with constant ingrown big toe toenails. Had a number of my close relatives have the procedure to remove the “roots” on the side.

Went to see a Dr and he told me if I cut the nails straight instead of curved on the end it wouldn’t happen. That was over 30 years ago and during that time very few ingrown nails.
