championing the idea of bringing back the Revolutionary War practice of giving out letters of Marque to citizens
Did you see the image in the tweet and assume it was from revolutionary war just because we were fighting the British? That image is from war of 1812
Interesting note, last time we issued letter of marque was for Goodyear airships to hunt Japanese subs. eta: nevermind that story's not true
Privateer Airship
Hemingway patrolled for U-boats in his fishing boat w help equipping it by US embassy in Cuba and US Navy although he didnt have actual letter of marque. His scheme was far fetched and never yielded a kill. He hoped to attract a sub to trade fresh fish etc w the crew and then his rag tag band (including skilled jai lai players) would accurately hurl grenades down the hatch before the German deck guns could react.

While I agree the cartels need to be eradicated. They have a capability to do some damage. These arent some dopes playing with pistolas. They have legit tier 1 operators employed and have the same tech our Tier 1 have. any normies going down to try and get a bounty would be in for some serious pain. This is a massive undertaking and could only be done by the best of the best.

Pencil pushers. I think less than half of DEA employees are Special Agents.

The exact same thing guns from the Cartel would do
I have no interest in becoming a pirate, but the Cartel guys are just men like everyone else.

from your link
quote:anyway...no letters of marque or commissions for privateering have been issued by congress since 1815. the practice was agreed to be ended by the paris accord in 1856
The United States last issued a letter of marque in 1942. It authorized the Goodyear Company to deploy a helium filled blimp to hunt Japanese submarines off the Pacific coast. At least, that is the story reported in newspapers in the 1940s and embellished in books and articles over the following decades. But the story is not true–there were no letters of marque issued in World War II. The legend seems to have emerged from journalistic confusions, spawned by larger wartime controversies over legal limits on private involvement in military operations. The debates of that era have reemerged in our time–along with the notion of using letters of marque to unleash high tech combatants.

Thanks for pointing that out. Cant believe I skimmed over the important part that the story was false

This also opens up for private citizens to have "weapons of war". They'd be tax write offs as well.

Blackwater would need to be hired by private entities. The whole point of this is not spending any more government money.
But I'm down with that is some rich folks in Texas are feeling that frisky!
