Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after a 20-year-old woman was killed in a crash involving a party bus in northeast Charlotte.

quote:

According to CMPD, officers responded to a reported crash with injuries in the 4500 block of North Tryon Street just before 10:30 Tuesday night. When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim, 20-year-old Polly Rogers, unresponsive and lying in the roadway. Medic pronounced Rogers dead at the scene.

Officials with UNC Charlotte confirmed to WCNC Charlotte that Rogers was a student at the school.

Investigators determined that Rogers was riding on a chartered party bus that left the campus of UNCC and was going to a bar in uptown. Police said she fell out of an emergency window on the right side of the bus and landed in the roadway before being struck by two other vehicles.

Beautiful girl and what a horrible thing to happen at such a time in life as that.

So the charter party bus company allows underage drinking?

They're screwed.

So many questions...

responded to a reported crash

So did the bus crash, which caused her to fall out of the window? Or was her falling out and the subsequent chaos the "crash?"

ETA: Just watched the video in the link. Damn, looks like she just fell out. The owner of the charter company even shows the news channel how secure the windows are. I'm not sure I can blame the charter company for this one...

A matter of months wouldn't have made this less likely. Binge drinking culture is deadly.

I don't understand why a good buzz isn't acceptable anymore, getting shithoused is not fun.

The article didn't say anything about her drinking or being drunk.

I mean, we can all assume, but that's about it.

I'm no lawyer, but depending on what actually went down, I'm not sure how liable they could possibly be. Especially if they weren't actually furnishing alcohol and/or they weren't drinking on the bus.

What laws are there against allowing intoxicated underage people from boarding a chartered vehicle? If there were, cabs would be ID'ing everyone before they got in.

No crash

The man being interviewed in the video demonstrated how the lever had to be firmly pressed down to open the window so it could swing open, but once it closed, it immediately locked again. Could have been horsing around. You’re right. Lots of questions to be answered in this.

Indeed. Being in college and having fun with friends while ensuring that nobody has to drive drunk is truly the epitome of trashy.
