quote:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized the U.S., saying it was damaging his country’s economy by unduly stoking panic that Russia may be planning an invasion.

quote:

“We are grateful to the U.S. for the support for our independence and territorial integrity,” Zelenskiy told foreign media on Friday in the capital Kyiv. “But I am the president of Ukraine, I am here and I know more details and I have deeper knowledge than any other president.”

quote:

The issue arose again on Thursday night, when U.S. President Joe Biden held a call with Zelenskiy. Biden told Zelenskiy “that there is a distinct possibility that the Russians could invade Ukraine in February,” according to U.S. National Security Council spokesperson Emily Horne. “I am not saying escalation could not happen,” Zelenskiy said Friday. “We have been saying this for eight years already and part of our territories are already occupied.”

With this asshat as President, I’m sure their is plenty of deflection going on to take the heat of how poor of a job they have done

the president DESPERATELY needs a distraction and a win.

When nothing happens, and nothing will in the short term, he can claim how tough he is and have an international victory that will get trumpeted for weeks

Instead of the total debacle that is the rest of what's going on

So there isn’t a big Russian invasion force amassing on the Ukraine border?

I have no interest in sending young Americans to die, so that a few hundred people in northern Virginia can remodel their bathrooms.

Not sure why it matters.

Didn't realize America's doorstep was 2300 miles east of Paris.

It’s entirely possible that Putin is banking on tensions to heat up and for NATO or Ukraine to preemptively strike as a prelude to a perceived “justifiable” incursion into Ukraine. Playing up the tension might be his game plan.

Right. The thousands of Russian troops, the medics, the blood supplies and the body bags massed at the Russia-Ukraine border should not be viewed as cause for concern.
Biden, of course, added to the problem by showing his arse in Afghanistan and with his "small incursion" gaffe.

Those are the people who benefit from big government. They thank the little guy for their support.

Putin with another checkmate?

Wheeling and dealing behind the scenes with NATO offering cheap arse gas for years compared to the expensive Americans? Promises of no expansion by both sides and total sovereignty. Hell Ukraine and Russia may become pals as well as NATO soon with America being the odd ball left out.

Would you rather be on team Xiden or team Putin right now if you were a leader? That's all you need to know.

Sad, Putin is a murderous conniving devil. But we have no leadership to lead.

"In great empires the people who live in the capital, and in the provinces remote from the scene of action, feel, many of them scarce any inconveniency from the war; but enjoy, at their ease, the amusement of reading in the newspapers the exploits of their own fleets and armies. To them this amusement compensates the small difference between the taxes which they pay on account of the war, and those which they had been accustomed to pay in time of peace. They are commonly dissatisfied with the return of peace, which puts an end to their amusement, and to a thousand visionary hopes of conquest and national glory, from a longer continuance of the war.”

Meh, I’m not getting how warninng Ukraine of a Russian invasion should be construed as calling Ukraine “weak.” Even the strongest countries are subject invasions. Unless the concern is over the implied superiority of the Russian military over the Ukrainian military, which is already obvious based on population disparities between the two countries.

It would be like the UK warning Canada of a US invasion.

“Please don’t imply Canada is weak!”

Most countries are not fans of the US but want our help only when the excrement hits the fan.

If the Ukraine has their stuff under control, let them handle it. If by under control they mean sticking their head in the sand, then let that happen.

We need to stop making decisions for people that really don't like us. We see this all the time in the Middle East, and we never learn.
