Hopefully they keep it up. Glad there are still people willing to fight communism. We just bend over and take it here in America.

Currently it's socialist, but it's run by a cabal of communists and they're making their way to their ideal pretty quickly.

Protest spreads to the Ukrainian Olympic team.
quote:
Ukrainian Olympians: "We, members of the National Olympic team of Ukraine: Matsotska Bohdana and Matsotskiy Oleh are deeply indignant at recent actions of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. Instead of negotiations to resolve the conflict at Maidan ( we had a hope for while leaving to the Olympic Games in Sochi) he sank the latest hopes of Ukrainians in blood, thus breaking with the eternal principle of the Olympic Games - the Peace during the Olympics.
In solidarity with the fighters on Maidan barricades and protests against the bandit - the president and his grovelling government, we refuse further performance at the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014.
An imperishable memory of fallen heroes of Ukraine for freedom!
Glory to Ukraine and its Heroes!"

More impressions from the day, from Kyiv:
A day of amazing impressions and pride in my fellow Ukrainians. After that horrible night ... Kyivites simply flooded the Maidan with food, tires (some brought by Acuras and Lexus), women in expensive fur coats passing bricks up the assembly line to the barricades, businesmen who open their stores and cafes on the main street Khreschatyk all night to maidan folks, 19 yr old students, chemistry majors making the most popular cocktails, and thousands of amazing people ready to die to defend their dignity. It brought tears to my eyes to see a man without legs on his cart determinedly breaking up the cobblestones. Thank you my dear Ukrainians for these unbelievable emotions!!

50-year-old Valery Brezdenyuk from Zhmerynka (Vinnytsa oblast) died last night on Maidan [Maidan Nezalezhnosti] after being shot in the back. His wife learned of his death from a stranger’s phone call and has gone to Kyiv to bring her husband’s body home.
Valery Brezdenyuk had also recently become active in the Udar party, however was best known for his unique artwork. He took first place in the local talent competition for his paintings on water, and was in the finals for the nationwide “Ukraine has talent” competition. A local newspaper writes that he needed only clear water and paint to create a magical world.

Amazing eyewitness accounts of events of February 18.
"A man in his 60's, whose face is bloodied and who is being treated by medics, is yelling: faster, the children are dying over there, I’d rather it be me.
Women, who are carrying wood, paving blocks, clothing in their hands, who hollowed the paving blocks by themselves, to help men who are on the front line.
A granny who was giving 50 hryvnas [around $6] to me and crying that there’s nothing more she can help with. Everybody was sending her home, but she wouldn’t listen. They left her to gather paving blocks.
But most of all Tolia, who fell out of the 5th floor, could hardly walk to the medics, but was dragging his wounded friend on himself.
This is war. Everybody keeps repeating this. But what kind of war is that? They have weapons, they shoot, and we are empty-handed.
But there is a postive thing as well, people become very kind."
