They’re treating it like any other new virus that shows up and not panicking. Seems logical.

No.
If we flatten the curve...our healthcare system will be able to better manage the COVID-19 cases that do come in. It can handle a trickle, it CANNOT handle a flood.
Yall don't realize that most hospital ICUs this time of year are still at almost max capacity normally due to respiratory season, etc. Slamming the healthcare system with a massive amount of COVID-19 patients right now....will have horrific outcomes.
And that isn't just the ICUs...the entire healthcare system will be overwhelmed. It will impact so many aspects of a hospital.
We do NOT want this to happen.

Dr. Fauci’s medical opinion is that you DO develop substantial immunity after first infection.

The "its just a cold" crew will love this

"herd immunity"
The problem with this is if everyone gets it at the same time, health care services become inundated, ICUs become overwhelmed, mortality rates spike.
TLDR; #FlattenTheCurve

The social isolation they want us to do is not going to stop this virus at all.
It isn’t intended to stop it. It is intended to slow walk the virus so healthcare system doesn’t collapse.

Sadly I think this is the better way to do it. Medical experts are saying we're all going to get it at some point. Just have us all get it and that way we get it out of our system sooner and our system becomes immune.
Dumb.

Duh. That is the point. Please read up on the topic before posting.
We don’t have the medical capacity to “all get it at once”.

You have to stop comparing apples to oranges here. This is NOT swine flu.
Please tell me you at least understand the basic concept of overwhelming a healthcare system all at once vs over several months?

4,000 people died during that outbreak. The people acting like that was a win are fricking moonbats

Yeah but that would only be for a short period of time right? With the USA approach, if we have a lengthened curve one could very easily argue that for non Covid ICU care the USA method is MORE dangerous as instead of 2-3 weeks of overworked healthcare we will have 2-3 months.
This.
Our hospital had 10 people waiting for beds before this outbreak started. Most in the area are like that too. The correct thing to do would have been to make it known this is serious, take proper precautions, but not put life on hold for who knows how long

Testing error is the most likely cause - not reinfection.

So you are saying that your hospital already can't handle the demand for care...but will be able to handle the massive influx of patients that WILL happen if everyone gets COVID-19 at once???
Your post makes no sense.

Yup. Unless you shut it all down and quarantine everyone. Canceling sporting events just alter where the people transmit the virus.
Its mostly hospitalizing people with underlying conditions that would likely end up in the hospital anyway from a COPD exacerbation, or something else

Well I for one ain't staying home. Work during week from home but will still be enjoying the outdoors in my off time. Yesterday had the river to myself.

Except by EVERY standard, the UK is miles and miles past the US in their pursuit of socialism. That said, it will be interesting to compare the stoic approach to the hibernation approach over the long term and compare.

We need the government to be flying drones with one-way audio telling people to stay inside their houses or throw them in a gulag!

Likely end up in a hospital? Wtf? We just throw our hands up and say “these old sick fricks we’re gonna die anyway. Let all head to the Pelicans game!!!!”

Nope do what we can. Not worth people potentially losing jobs over and tanking the economy over
