Long term suspension. B. Evaluation by the high school Child Study Team. C. Recommendation by the administration to the Board of Education for suspension for at least 1 year.

What if someone posted a pic of a student eating a steak at Outback? Is a steak knife not a weapon?

Hell, holding a baseball bat, football helmet, etc...all can be used as weapons. Lot of suspensions could happen.

also, reading the FB group, it is comforting to know that all neighborhood FB groups are basically the exact same thing

people posting lost dogs, bitching about speeding, bitching about yards, bitching about some business, or asking for recommendations for haircuts or handyman

This is the most accurate thing I've read all day

Yep, the stuff that "really" matters is what they complain about.

I assumed the policy was broadly written to be able to suspend a student for an off campus incident or arrest.

Schools have had problems in the past preventing students from attending class while they were out on bond for serious crimes. They wanted the ability to suspend a troublemaker or potentially dangerous student.

I thought the suspension might be an example of bureaucratic lunacy by an overzealous administrator misapplying the policy.

I was wrong. While the policy is written in a broad and all encompassing manner to cover a lot of scenarios, it clearly states
quote:

possession of a weapon of any type for any reason or purpose whether on or off school grounds

The policy wasn’t misinterpreted by a single person pushing an agenda. Guns are the scariest things in the world to these people. Any student crazy enough to hold a gun is a danger. Hunting, a firearm safety class, or even holding an antique rifle are not excuses.

Regardless of whether it was appropriate or not, it was stupid to do because the climate over kids with guns is pretty hot. Social media is a great way to figure out how dumb someone is.

This is one of the most controversial issues today, and someone is dumb enough to post pics of guns and ammo. No...not posing with a deer, just the guns and ammo? Hell, post a picture of your kid actually shooting at the target.

Furthermore, the fascination with people constantly letting the social media world in on their daily activities is the cause of this.

You wanna go to the gun range? Great. Why do you have to post pictures of your weapons?

What does it matter? It's none of their business. Whether someone wants to post stuff is on them.

What? That's absurd. What in the world is wrong about posting that picture?

I'm not buying that "it's the climate of today" crap. Thinking like that is how we get a bunch of nerds needing safe spaces.

It violated someone's social media safe space.

There’s nothing wrong with the picture.

But to act surprised that this happened is pretty stupid. Today’s climate is exactly why this happened. You don’t have to ‘buy’ it. It literally happened. Those Jersey people are probably nerds who need the safe spaces. But this topic is so sensitive, you are pretty dumb with your faux shock over this stuff.

The district has since changed their policy:

quote:

"Students are forbidden to carry any type of weapon or simulated weapon to school," the revamped policy states. "Strict disciplinary action and legal actions will result if this occurs. Any person who knowingly has in his possession any imitation firearm in or upon any part of the building... without the written authorization of the governing officer of the institution, or while on any school bus is a disorderly person."

Hopefully the two students are reinstated and given time to make up their coursework. Legal action also seems reasonable.

Can you imagine how easily the Russians and Cubans could have taken over our country had they waited until now to invade instead of 1984 when a group of high school kids ran them off with deer rifles and stolen AKs/RPGs?
