Shoplifting in a Mercedes..SMDH
I think if you run from the cops, you should be charged with some kind of attempted vehicular manslaughter. Countless lives are put in danger. To me it's like shooting into a crowd.

I'd bet money she was driving an old beat up arse Mercedes with no insurance, wearing spandex with slippers that were being drug across the floor as she walked because she was too lazy to lift her feet.

Why is it that the scumbags always survive these types of crashes relatively unscathed while some poor unsuspecting and unlucky person going about their day gets killed?

She was booked on two counts of manslaughter
Hopefully the DA upgrades those charges to murder

Is running from the police not a felony? She should be charged with felony murder or the equivalent in Louisiana

I'm not sure how it works, legally, but she technically was no longer in a police chase. JP called it off, turned off their sirens and backed off once they crossed over into Nola. She crashed way before the officers got off the interstate to turn around.

And there’s the problem - stop letting career criminals run the streets
This is the result

It will be interesting when/if this eventually all this comes out.
Off duty sees the car, I'm assuming gives chase, then radios in. A minute later it is called off, but they ended up on St Bernard Ave to "turn around"
What's that, about 4-5 miles in traffic?

Must've missed the part about the innocent teenager getting murdered.

Let's do the math about Ms. Smooth.
In ten years, how many months was she OUT of JAIL?
Let's guess prison for a couple of months each time. Now, how many thefts did she do and not get caught? I'd guess caught one time in ten. Or where would she have gotten the money to buy the Mercedes, even an old one?
She was a busy, busy person and may have earned money training assistants in her lucrative field.

Not sure if I could contain my rage if some POS criminal killed my kid because of sheer stupidity and recklessness.

Imagine someone then trying to walk up and tell you how it is the cop's fault for chasing the criminal.

There are several unknowns...
The cop who was off duty (working detail?) Radioed in the call. An on Deputy spotted the car as it was entering I-10 East. He/ she called it in that they were entering Orleans Parish. Supposedly, the pursuit was called of less than a minute later.
A minute after starting the pursuit? A minute after entering Orlean Parish? How fast were they going?
Presumably, the pursuit was called off east of the West End/Canal Blvd exits and the JP fell back. But the next exit is St Bernard (I think), we're they came upon the accident scene.
It can't be more than 5 or 6 miles from Causeway to St Bernard Ave. It's probably 3 or 4 from the Parish line to St Bernard Ave.
