At the same convenient store.

quote:

LOS ANGELES —

Two Mega Millions jackpot tickets were sold Friday night at the same Southern California gas station.

According to the California Lottery, both tickets were sold at a Chevron along Ventura Boulevard near Lindley Avenue in Encino.

Because there were two jackpot tickets, both tickets will split the grand prize of $395,000,000. The winning numbers are 21-26-53-66-70 with a jackpot number of 13.

Oh and a similarly weird thing happened with a much smaller pot in NYC: Same guy wins two $10M jackpots in a little over a year apart from the same convenience store.

Starting to think the lottery is money laundering - seems like California wins every time its a large jackpot.

That seems statistically impossible

Only thing I can gather is that one person played the same exact set of numbers twice on the same ticket.

Or maybe it was 2 separate tickets....

Rather amazing that the state with the highest taxes always has the lottery winner.

And even more amazing is California doesn't tax lottery winnings...yet. Don't think that their politicians aren't paying attention to the mega winners coming from their state.

One of their congressmen from Los Angeles is a former lottery winner.

His name is Gil Cisneros.

In 2010, he and his wife won a $266 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot[2] and became philanthropists. He was elected to the House in 2018 to represent California's 39th congressional district.[3]

If I were a betting man, I would say the same person used the same numbers on separate tickets thinking they would win the jackpot twice if it hits. Lots of dumb people out there.

Probably the same person bought both tickets.

Plays the same numbers, bought a ticket earlier in the week for Friday's drawing and forgot or meant to buy the second ticket for Tuesday's drawing. Ended up with two tickets for Friday with the same numbers.

Both were sold on Friday. They were bought on the same day.

Your odds of winning don’t change much whether you have 1 ticket or 1000 tickets, but having multiple winners guarantees you a larger share of the pot if there are multiple winners. It’s actually the only roi strategy you have in the lottery

11% of Americans reside in California. If you hear about someone in the news, there's a decent chance they're from California.

They knew each other and shared the same numbers. It's the only explanation.
