That's absolutely true. But several times I found myself quoting the famous Steveth Spurriers when Aaronsen was running around, exclaimed to my apple-bottomed girlfriend that I 'told you he could run. Yeah click-clack.'

Well to be honest it did. I assure majority of African Americans if given a choice would prefer being born in the United States as opposed to Ghana. Or do you disagree that descendants of slaves are better off being raised in the good ole US of A.

I live and work in West Africa(where the majority of the Atlantic slave trade originated) and if I were you I’d rethink that stance.

what do you think the political context of slavery was?
Slavery is theft of work. Full Stop.
It's not the only system that steals the work of others (communism).
I can't support any system that steals the work of individuals.

Again that doesn't answer my question.

Great. What was the political context of European chattel slavery?

The policy was fueled by economics.
They needed cheap labor and they had the technological means and will to make it happen.
In our moral 20/20 hindsight view, this was improper.

Lol it seems like you want to say something but can't bring yourself to say it.

Classic. It was viewed as improper then too you silly goose. There's no anachronism needed.

It was a super cheap labor source for an agrarian economy in the new world. That’s really all there is to it. Was racism a part of it? Of course. But it’s not like the white Europeans were like “We found a whole continent of people we hate. What should we do with them? Oh I know, let’s invent a need and reason to treat them like shite. We can plant cotton in America and have them pick it just to frick with the inferior race!”
The new world needed cheap labor. The blacks in africa couldn’t stop the Europeans from enslaving them so they got the short straw. If China or India had been on the way to the new world they would have been the ones that were enslaved.

This thread has been fantastic. It started with a funny video, and quickly devolved into a bunch of people not quite defending slavery but also not quite NOT defending slavery.
I’ve learned a lot today. Primarily that all African American descendants of slaves should really seek out descendants of slave owners to thank them.

Not only that, but they should curse Lincoln and those nosy Northerners.
If they hadn't started the Civil War, all of the black Southern descendents of slaves could have their own plantations and slaves. It was never about racism. Just simple economics.

Where did those products go?

Instead they invented entire disciplines that were meant to justify it. Obviously more elegant.

The world always needs cheap labor.

This is trivia, but Marx said essentially the same thing in the British newspapers about India.

quote:false! because all of the powerful land owning slavers would have clearly just phased slavery out. it was going away no matter what!
all of the black Southern descendents of slaves could have their own plantations and slaves

My of my, that could be a great ‘what if’ discussion.
