The biggest problem in Jackson is a complete dearth of major employers. We do no have that issue in BR...Exxon, LSU, Southern U., City Gov, Growing Healthcare, Other engineering and Petro Chem jobs will always keep big parts of BR livable even in a recession. BR is arguably the economic engine of the entire state of Louisiana. Mississippi in general has lost population everywhere in the state except the coast so even government positions aren't growing. BR's medical corridor is already on a whole different level with major plans for growth.
So while I'm also concerned with the future of BR, I don't think it will be so easy or prudent to abandon or dismiss it. Denham and Central flooding also puts a premium on high and dry areas in BR. Eventually places like Cortana will be redeveloped simply because companies (for insurance purposes or other) don't want to risk building in areas that heavily flooded.
Well said

I saw wrong being done to blacks, and it was bad. It should never have happened, but that was a long time ago and the people responsible for that are long gone
The problem is that the mayor and the majority of the people in her administration don't want to let it go. They want those who did wrong to pay. Look at what they're doing to poor Carl Dabadie and his police force. They won't be satisfied until he is fired, along with the 2 officers involved in the Alton Sterling shooting. It doesn't matter that the DOJ couldn't find reason to prosecute. It won't matter when Landry's people determine the same thing.
Did you read the report put together by Broome's transition team? I still can't believe how blatantly racist many of the statements in that report are. When the people in power subscribe to this type of agenda and those who speak out against it are publicly demonized, what are you supposed to do?

This.
It isn't about justice. It's about vengeance. Always has been.

I have been closely following the situation, and Broome is really looking bad in my eyes.
She defines "Justice" as having it her way to the point she was upset that the Feds found that one of our cops did not do wrong. She actually wanted the guy to do wrong so she could use that to further her agenda somehow.
It was very troubling to read the nonsense put out by her leadership group. Anyone paying attention knows what's going on.
