It never did. However, a real man turns away and lets it lie. There’s a great example of this in Gone With the Wind when Scarlett O’Hara angrily slaps Ashley Wilkes for getting engaged to Melanie Wilkes. The man didn’t slap her back. He stood there, held in his anger, and then politely excused himself from the room.

This is how that scenario used to play out.

I agree that you shouldn't hit a woman, but I bet she will think twice before doing that again. Sometimes lessons are learned the hard way.
