Yeah yeah, Movie Board, whatever. But I was surprised/disappointed/challenged tonight to see Ken Levine** call out Baton Rouge in his blog.

quote:

Quentin Tarantino is currently filming his next movie that is set in Hollywood in 1969. Not sure of the premise. Probably a tender love story set against the Manson murders. But for authenticity his crew has transformed a couple of blocks of Hollywood Blvd., recreating Hollywood in 1969. This includes bus signs, ads on benches, etc. Talk about entering a time machine. So recently I went to dinner at Musso & Franks, which is right in the middle of the recreation. Took a couple of photos, and it was so cool to be back in 1969. With all due respect, you can’t do that in Baton Rouge.

Hmmm, has BTR now sunk so low in the public mind as to replace Peoria as the embodiment of Boredomville?

I think I sort of see what he's getting at, and I don't think it's exactly that.

I think he's referring to all the movies shot here.

This just comes across as extremely insecure.

It’s really not that big of a deal, baw.

How dare he say Baton Rouge isn’t Los Angeles. The very opinion is insulting. BR is every bit as cosmopolitan as Los Angeles...

The funniest thing is that scene would be easier to recreate than some of the other shite they've filmed there

Right, and just saying, if you're making a film set in 1960s Hollywood, it's probably easier to get right (or at least, best approximate it) actually IN HOLLYWOOD than in Baton Rouge.

They could've shot it in front of Krispy Kreme on plank

He’s rallying for films that are set in Hollywood to be filmed in Hollywood. Not in BR, NOLA, Toronto, insert tax credit town. Not a random jab at BR.

So he's saying that Hollywood is better for making movies than BR?

I'll file it under...No shite Sherlock.

Perhaps my take was obscured: of course Hollywood surpasses such "your_tax_abatement_here" States such as LA and now GA. I'm just wondering why Levine specifically called out Baton Rouge.

Seems to me almost a kudos if that's the first "your_tax_abatement_here" place that comes to mind for him, rather than some sort of slight.

Probably still blaming you for Alton Sterling. You should write a letter to the editor.

Let's see him make a 60's movie about Baton Rouge in Hollywood.

Dude this rant is way off base. He's calling out any city/state that has been luring the film industry with tax credits and infrastructure. The gist is "You can't do Hollywood as well as Hollywood can", particularly if the setting is... Well, Hollywood.
If anything it's a compliment to Baton Rouge for actually competing with Hollywood for production dollars for a while there.

You're worrying about something that's not there.
