quote:

"I have since learned that we did, in fact, our special operations division did, in fact, use what is called rubber balls, or stinger rounds, on the bridge," Ferguson admitted at a news conference. "As such, our force investigation team, under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent (Arlinda) Westbrook has launched a formal investigation."

The chief said the department will not only investigate the use of the anti-riot rounds, which the chief says was not authorized, but also why he was told that it didn't happen.

"Why wasn't I given that information on that night? There was a break down" of internal messaging, said Ferguson.

A lot of the more experienced officer still believe this is the Marc Morial / Richard Pennington "crack sculls" NOPD.

Ferguson is a cop's cop, the complete opposite of Serpas. He probably was fine with the use of the rubber bullets, but he's probably pissed AF that he was lied to.

One thing that should be clear to everyone after all of this is just how much law enforcement agencies lie.

Why even have them if you’re not going to use them?

When used appropriately, rubber bullets are a great invention. Hurts like a mf'er but doesnt kill anyone.

better to dissolve them than to have this across the country

if our choices are no pds or militarized pds, I'll take no pds. my sheriff's dept, like many, touts it's paramilitary unit. that's nuts. I live in a city of 35K. no other towns or communities of any significance in the county. The city pd handles all city law enforcement. wtf does my sheriff's dept have a paramilitary unit?

I feel like this is going to be a contest to see who the biggest moron in New Orleans is. Westbrook typically has the inside track, but we shall see.

"When used appropriately"

That's the key. We have PDs out here firing them directly at people and have resulted in cracking skulls, broken bones, huge lacerations, etc.

If they can't even use the shite appropriately why are they entrusted with the equipment at this point?
