My dad has a 2011 Tundra with 271,000 miles on it, he uses it for work everyday.

Still runs like a champ, other than the few minor things needing repair here and there (which any truck with that many miles on it would have).

I used to own a Ford, and used several for work trucks over the years. Telling me that they are anything beyond average (at best), much less as durable as a Toyota pickup is like trying to convince most of the middle class that Obamacare is actually brilliant.

So all of the older than 6 year Fords on the road are just a figment of my imagination?

With the ever rising cost of trucks, many choose to repair than replace. I would also exclude diesel trucks, as the OP was asking about 1/2 ton pickups. I see a lot of 6+ year old F250 and 350's but not near the same number as I do gas burners from GM or Toyota. Maybe you see different, but Forbes and iseecars tell the same story with GM and Toyota having 8 of the top 10 trucks and SUVs that last 200k miles plus.

I don't tow anything other than a trailer at times. I don't commute like I used to so gas mileage is not an issue. I have 3 kids....which has more cab space?

The Fords have closed the gap significantly here. Crewmax is still bigger but the difference is substantially smaller than it was in 2007 when I bought my Tundra. My Tunda, I can slide the rear seat forward and recline it. In 2014 they did away with that function of the back seat but they are still very comfortable.

I would agree with those that say the Ford has the edge on the bells and whistles but the Tundra is a great truck.

I'm 6'6"
2001 Tundra- plenty of headroom- still runs great. Never a major issue. Now my son drives it.

Also have 2015 Tundra. If they put in a sun roof, it will kill the head room, if not, there is plenty.

The diesel Fords were absolute garbage for 6-7 years. People who actually used their trucks and vans for work noticed.

Those things are roomy. They do look a little awkward from the outside though.

I said 6+, but I do remember Ford changing their diesel engine three or four times in the mid 2000s. I'm trying to think of another brand of truck thats had to shelve multiple engines over the last decade. Nope, nothing coming to me. Built Ford tough though.

Yep, my Dad had an 06 or 07 (can't remember which) F250 SuperDuty, it spent plenty of time on a wrecker or in a repair shop. Luckily, he avoided any major problems that totally killed the truck, but still, it had plenty of problems. Nice truck, but it couldn't handle the mileage/work load he had to put on it.

He got rid of it before it could die on him and got the 2011 Tundra I mentioned earlier in the thread.

If I was looking to keep a truck for 10+ years minimum, Tundra would be top of the list. I know it's a good motor, but I don't trust the Ecoboost to hold up well for 10+ years.

I love my Tundra and will not drive anything else. I was a GM man before I look into a Tundra. Toyota just has a better and longer lasting product with a higher resale value.

Were you attempting to drive a first gen Tundra by chance because those were a glorified mid size truck.

It was a '12 or '13. I think it had to do with the package having the leather also had a sunroof, which took some head room. Funny thing is I ended up getting the F150 that had a sunroof and plenty of head room.

I sold my '05 F-150 recently for 3k, had 170k miles and some engine problems.

I sell used vehicles in Montana. Based on what I've seen, a 12-year-old Tundra with 170k will almost definitely be solid and have no issues, and it'll be a $13k truck instead of $3k. We're the biggest dealership in Montana by sales, and in the year and a half I've worked here...aside from the occasional 5.9 Cummins or Honda Accord, I can't remember the last time we sold something with over 200k miles that wasn't a Toyota of some type. The hype is absolutely real. If you buy a Tundra you're buying a tough sumbitch of a truck that'll outlive you if you take care of it.

Can't fathom how Ford sells so many F150s.

I swear we just had this same thread, might have been on Money Board, do a search and might find some useful info there as well.

I drive a Tacoma, it's a great truck. Toyota is a better value in the long run, but I know a lot of folks that love their f150 and wouldn't drive anything else

I don't care about those numbers, the Toyota is more comfortable...period, you can recline the seat back and have those car seats and the kids are comfortable. In the Ford they ride in, they look like they are hanging off a cliff.

I will probably buy a Ford, from a Tundra, but the Tundra is a mule. I had a lift done on it that absolutely jacked up my front end (thanks Glass Tint Etc) so I go thru tires and racks like toilet paper....but from a finish, soundness, lack of rattle, and highway ride..the Tundra is a great truck. I just kinda like the look of the new Fords. I also like how quiet the new GM trucks are too.

I guess I don't belong in this thread where you have to have an absolute favorite and shite on everything else....

Glass Tint Etc ruined my truck.

Just ordered a tundra, it will be at my dealer on the 25th. Where are you located? If you are interested in buying new ask about the Costco member discount. You get current incentives & Costco wholesale discount. I live in Louisiana but bought in Texas bc I got $7k off of a $50k 2017 Tundra Limited. No hassle no haggle.
