It was just then I learned that I would also be sleeping at Captain Mike’s house that week

R Shultz Fresh Hardware would’ve been #1 if it was still there..
Good to see my grade school alma mater made it.
Captain Sid’s was originally Johnny and Buddy’s Seafood..
I also like the way Puchino’s did that store as a replica of the New Basin Canal lighthouse..

As someone who grew up getting MD 20/20 from Seminole as a youth, your list is shite and Deanie’s is shite. No discount zone on the corner of live oak and lake? List is bogus.

Great experience and entertaining post as usual. Would you consider a post on the top 10 features at the old entertainment park by the lake. May be before your time. Lots of memories were made for many there.
Peace.
Peace.

You're top tens of course are hit and miss but content such as this, at times will be. So no harm no foul.
I wasn't a fan of this particular treatise but you did however salvage it for me with the inclusion of the domino's sign. That was clever and because of it, I now leave this thread satisfied and not at all dissapointed.
Well done friend.

Heres where you erred with extreme prejudice...no list is even remotely accurate without Sid-Mar's.
If you had indeed spent time there, youd know the old Bucktown haunts should be front and center. No exceptions.
Maybe try old West End to redeem yourself.
I am disappointed.

Always look forward to these. Great job sir.
Running the lakefront between Carrollton and Bonnabel at late afternoon as the sun goes down over the causeway is low key one of the best parts of the area

This isn't a list of historic signs.

We creeped northward, past Sid Mar’s on our left. It was a shame Sid Mar’s could never reclaim its glory after the federal government took their property. We then passed the old Bruning house, which acted as a de facto lighthouse and lifeguard station until Katrina washed it to sea.

Amelia Urrate was an upstanding woman. Born of generous and courageous Bruning heritage, she was the last owner of the famed Bucktown restaurant carrying her family’s name. It had a New Orleans address on West End Blvd, but its entire structure, like most of West End’s seafood restaurants, was in Jefferson Parish. I don’t remember exactly how the arrangement was made, but I assume it was through Mrs. Urrate or one of her contacts, as we did not know anyone else in Bucktown.
All the places that ran along the lake were in Jefferson Parish, from Brunings to Fitzgerald’s..
My first job at 13 was a bus boy at Fontana’s on Westend, and grew up with Mrs Urrate’s grandson Buddy..
Also, the Urrate’s house was the last house on Orpheum on the left just before the old wooden gap bridge..
