Literally 15 seconds to google…
Yes, a valid, unexpired Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card can be used as an acceptable alternative to a REAL ID for boarding commercial flights at a TSA checkpoint

Do I need a “real ID” with TWIC card?
No, I’ve used my TWIC several times lately with zero issues.

I also think TWIC is good for for TSA precheck.
Make sure your TWIC # is listed as your KTN on your flight.

You can use your twic. It is listed under approved forms of ID on the TSA website.

I’m not sure what KTN number is but it sounds like easier to just go get real ID on my drivers license

TWIC is fine for Real ID, and its also Precheck.
Use the number on the back bottom left of your TWIC as your KTID number.
BTW, TSA are typically dumbasses and wont even know what a TWIC card is outside of the Gulf Coast. I had to request a supervisor when I was flying back from Minnesota.

Known traveler number
On my TWIC card it’s the numbers under the bar code on the left.

MSY is the only place that has given me trouble. Had a moment of baffelment when the agent asked "Who issues these?"
In Chicago there wasn't a problem, but another TSA agent asked to see the TWIC because "I've never seen one before, that's cool"

I've gotten tsa pre on every flight using the number on my twic for the last 5 years or so. Just enter it when I book ticket.
Unless I'm not understanding what you are saying.

I was able to use it no problem at MSY.
On the way back in Omaha the TSA guy didn't know what it was. First time seeing one. I didn't cause a stink because I had my passport just in case.

No, you do not need a real id if you twic is current.
Posted on 9/30/25 at 8:27 pm to DeepSouthSportsman
My Twic card number does get me TSA pre check when booking flights.
I don’t have real I so I use my passport.
Never tried to just use the twic card

You get overlooked here a lot.
You get overlooked at an Elementary School a lot.

Didnt have a twic card but had my Federal CAC card I used in Hawaii one time. Thankfully had my passport because the TSA guard was clueless about what I gave him even though he had the same card on his shirt
Eh, there's a difference between a PIV card and a CAC. DHS and TSA don't have CAC's, which is strictly DOD. In theory there should be no issue with a TWIC.
One of the benefits of having a CAC was also having pre-check. I never had an issue with my CAC, in fact it actually got me through the line a lot quicker most often.

but if you try to use it as ID you probably wont get thru.
