BATON ROUGE – Police said two men broke into an apartment and shot the two teenage boys inside, leaving one dead and a second injured.
Police identified one suspect as Jamoriya Ben, 20. Ben was arrested Friday and booked into jail on murder and attempted murder charges. The second suspect, who has not been identified, is on the loose.
Police said Ben and his accomplice shot and killed 19-year-old Jywuan Butler and Butler's 17-year-old brother. The shooting happened on Sherwood Hollow Court off Sherwood Forest between I-12 and Old Hammond around 11:16 Thursday night.

According to records obtained by the WBRZ Investigate Unit, Ben had pleaded guilty four days ago to motor vehicle theft. Judge Trudy White deferred Ben's sentence for six months.

Deferring a sentencing to allow a Pre-sentence investigation to occur is commonplace..typically, he should have been remanded after pleading guilty, not running around.

Can you explain this a little more? I'm not sure of the process of an investigation in relation to a murder sentence deferment. This is not a troll post.
ETA: why does commonplace fit this scenario? Or should I be upset that this occurred here.

A presentence investigation report (PSIR) is a legal term referring to the investigation into the history of person convicted of a crime before sentencing to determine if there are extenuating circumstances which should ameliorate the sentence or a history of criminal behavior to increase the harshness of the sentence
So they have the kid on motor vehicle theft but haven't sentenced for the murder? I'm not familiar with the process so I'm having a hard time understanding why someone suspected of a violent crime is back on the streets for such a long period to determine his history.

As I understood what he posted, the guy pled guilty to the auto theft, not the murder. I've seen lots of times where after they plead guilty, they will check their criminal history for previous convictions that could enhance a penalty, see if they are currently on parole/probation somewhere that they would owe additional time on, things like that. Most of the time they take you into custody after you plead guilty ( no brainer) and you would get credit for time served. I could not see any judge worth a shite accepting a guilty plea right off then immediately sentencing on that charge. It would get tossed faster than a jailhouse salad.

He plead guilty to motor vehicle theft, his sentencing was deferred. While he was loose prior to sentencing, he murdered someone. So, it's not like he killed someone and was let loose. Why he wasn't sentenced on the spot is the issue. It takes two seconds.
And non violent sentence deferments are commonplace. People that have no prior history or are non violent criminals are often set free to handle their affairs before they are sent to jail. Why this guy was set free....well....he must have a good lawyer.

Or a worthless racist judge?

There's that too. Honestly don't know anything about her. I was just trying to clear it up for others that didn't understand sentence deferment or that were confused by the wording and thought he was released after being arrested for murder.
