There’s a fundamental lack of understanding how payload affects trucks that are governed at the same speed. You can’t just line the trucks up 100’ apart and cruise from Atlanta to Pheonix. One truck has potato chips and zips right along. The next truck has 40,000 lbs of bottled water and lugs up the hill and flies down the back side to get momentum for the next hill. If you’ve driven both you would understand.
This is not some secret information that only truck drivers are privy to. Actually it seems that truckers are less likely to understand how this works given that they're the ones who keep fricking up. If you know you're hauling bottled water and you can't complete a pass in under 5 minutes, how about just don't do it? Or get on the radio and see if the guy in front of you has a lighter load and wouldn't mind checking up to let you by? Is this too difficult to do or do you just not give a shite?

As a person that’s been through the process, I can tell you that the amount of certifications and training to become a commercial driver can be exhausting.

The general motoring public do not poses 1/10 of the knowledge a commercial driver does in regards to the rules of the road.

Truckers are not the problem, idiots that challenge and get fresh with a 30 ton vehicle are the problem.

Pretty sure that blocking the flow of traffic and creating unnecessarily vehicle-dense patches of highway and increased frustration on the road is the problem, and it's truckers doing that on their own.

Something happened in the last 10 years. The quality of truck driver has collapsed. There are so many shitty truck drivers now.

I wish truck drivers were confined to the right lane like in Europe.

Unfortunately it’s time we mandate this lane restriction in Louisiana.

Saw a photo of a series of notices to truckers at a dock that was written in about dozen or more languages.

If a trucker can't understand a simple 2 sentence note in English, how the hell is he passing all these certifications etc?

Enough idiots on 2, 4, and 18 wheels to satisfy everyone...

Transporting troops as well. Eisenhower led a military trip in the late teens that took almost 40 days to get from coast to coast. After he saw the Autobahn he wanted a similar system for us.

School bus drivers are right up there with them. They dgaf because they know other drivers will slam on their brakes to not hit a bus full of kids.

I ate questionable seafood one night and threw up on myself while driving home. Shirt was ruined. A truck driver at a gas station where I stopped to clean up literally gave me the shirt off of his back. Not sure what kind of driver the guy was but he was a very good person.

Trucks now drive like most cars. In the passing lane cruising with not a care in the world.

My dad was a truck driver and he would go nuts with how people drive today.

It’s frustrating being stuck behind someone for five minutes straight huh? Well those drivers who are trying to pass at a snails pace are trying to avoid being stuck behind another driver for hours. Doesn’t make it courteous or safe but I can’t blame anyone for trying. Imo the guy who refuses to back off a hair and let him by is the bigger prick cause it’s in his interest to do so safety wise, a la making more space for himself.

My company has what’s called ‘pass smart’ enabled on their trucks which allows us to exceed the 66mph we’re governed at up to 70mph for a total of 30min a day. Doesn’t sound like much but it makes passing so much easier. How pass smart isn’t enabled on every governed semi on the road is beyond me. I wouldn’t drive a company truck without it now. Yet few big fleets have this.

Fwiw there are a ton of shite truck drivers out there, I’ve been run onto the shoulder more times than I can count by other truck drivers but probably less than a handful of times by four wheelers. These companies will put damn near anybody behind the wheel.

Oh and if you let THAT stretch of road get to you don’t ever become a truck driver

Just wish they would stay in the right lane.

Maybe if assholes would let truckers over they would stay in the right lane. But for example driving westbound in BR towards the bridge, many stay in the left cause they would miss the bridge exit

After reading this thread in its entirety, I have come to the conclusion that truckers aren't assholes and they aren't discourteous, they are simply all on tigerdroppings posting about how important they are and how they know so much more about driving than the rest of us. Lord, who knew we had so many truckers among us???

Put the phone down and move over arse hats.

As a truck driver I will be honest... I hate driving around other truckers.

Cause they're unpredictable.

I know 99.9% of the 4 wheelers are retarded and will not pay attention to anything. They're easy to anticipate.

That car in front of me driving exactly 65 mph approaching the bridge? Yep they're about to slow down because they're not paying attention to the fact that they're climbing a hill now.

Truck drivers are like 95% retarded. I expect them all to do dumb shite and every once in a while they do something smart. Throws me off.

I just drive local now though. OTR is for the super truckers.

So many truckers and trucker sympathizers in here think truckers can just do as they please and anyone who gets pissed off about it is a pussy or of weak will. Whatever makes you feel better about being a shite person.

I think this thread had the potential to be a classic thread if we were talking about electric big rigs. I don't know if you'd survive it, Korky.
