Truck breaklight help

I ripped out the wiring to my trail light plug when I went hunting the other day.
I have replace the trail light plug on my chevy Silverado 1996.
Now I think everything is working again. But the break light do not work. Blinkers work, but no break lights.
The fuse to the tail lights was blown. Fixed that and it restored a bunch of stuff but still no break lights.
I get continuity across the relay under the hood.
I replaced the fuse.
Should the power to the fuse be hot all the time?
Should the power to the relay be hot all the time?
What is the order of the power.
I am guessing relay under hood, fuse, then break pedal switch! Is that right?
Thanks in advance.

They come on when you hit the break pedal

Thanks that was the problem. I would hit the breaks and by the time I got back there to check they had already gone back out. LOL. Just kidding.
Sorry Sun God I hit the return key on my post trying to tab down to the message before I had a message to send.
Seriously, though. Would appreciate any input.

Ripped out wiring makes me suspect you pulled a ground out or loose.
If you have a meter, check voltage at the fixture at the back of the vehicle with the pedal depressed. (+) lead of your meter to the bulb socket center pin and (-) lead to solid chassis ground.
If you get 12VDC with the brakes activated, you're losing ground somewhere. Start working back down the harness.
