If you get 12VDC with the brakes activated, you're losing ground somewhere. Start working back down the harness.

If this great advice doesn’t work, post the question on the Outdoor Board. The amount of practical knowledge there is pretty impressive. Good luck.

I went down a rabbit hole on this once and I ended up doing what I should done in the first place and took it to a shop who fixed it in 15 minutes.

We have a Pull a Part near us and my husband has gone there (their inventory is on line) and used those cars to figure out how to take problems on our older cars apart so he can replace stuff.

Can you borrow a Chilton's for your truck from your library?

Or maybe download a wiring schematic from somewhere?

Never mind. Turns out my truck never had break lights to start with.

Perhaps a simple solution, but have you replaced the bulb? If it's a single bulb with dual filaments it's possible only the brake light filament is broken but the other is intact and working.

Fixed that and it restored a bunch of stuff but still no break lights

What was restored when you replaced the fuse? Which fuse did you replace? Brake lights on this are off a 30 Amp Maxi Fuse located in the underhood fuse really center. Fuse M2-N2.

My dad never had working brake lights on his 51 Ford pickup. Just used hand signals.

I think I have bigger problems. Filament on one light was blown. So I replaced it. Test. It comes on for a second and then nothing. So apparently I have a short somewhere. At 4 dollars a pop, tail lights get expensive if I blow a couple of dozen trying to figure this crap out, only to have to take it to a mechanic in the end.

Thanks for all of the help.
