Most homeowners policies in Louisiana carry a higher deductible for wind damage caused by named storms. By naming the storm, NHC just saved the insurance companies a lot of money because most people will now have to pay higher deductibles on wind damage claims related to this storm.
If your family member got water in their house, it would almost certainly have to be filed as a flood claim - flood policies don't have named storm deductibles, so it's irrelevant.

We need to put “CitizenK complains about the things the National Hurricane Center does” on the bingo card.

Say what you want about the NHC, I don't even think it should have been named, but the folks in a few NWS offices have been earning their keep over the past several hours. Picking rotations out in this shite is always going to be difficult, and you're almost put in an impossible situation with these spinup tornadoes. Sometimes they're gone as soon as they're noticed. At least they usually aren't violent.

Not a surprise for the Mississippi coast with storm surge, but this 'storm' caused a 5.5 foot above astronomical tide water level rise. The peak of +4.43 feet was at low tide which was predicted at -1.06 feet.

I could have waited to cut my grass today like I had planned in the first place.

This thing doesn't have a discernible "eye".

No doubt it was a strong weather system, but once again we see politics and science clash.
They have been pumping up the named storm numbers to help their global warming narrative. Then you have the insurance angle too.
Insurance should cover the structure and weather it not a named storm causes the damage or an ordinary wind storm causes the damage; the insurance coverage should be the same.

The center is already well north of New Orleans.

I'm sure the people who have flooded in Slidell would disagree with you
