Treasury Says to Save, Not Spend, $2,000 Tariff Check
If anyone does that, it would remind me of this South Park gif with inflation.

It depends on what the income level cut off is and how many filers.
$450 billion would be a high estimate.
But only responsible people will save it. Others will spend it immediately and be right back to where they were.

"Cost"?? But...but wait -- Weren't we told this $2000 "rebate" was a windfall from the Tariffs?? While we're waiting for this $2000, maybe Bessant can project exactly when we get the teased $5000 check from the DOGE savings?
Tariffs have brought in $200 billion through September.
If this is really for people making under $100k this will cost closer to $230 billion, not $450 billion.

Pay the debt down
Ain't no way no how ever happening, Hoss.
Only way to resolve the exploding debt problem is for the gubmint to default on all $40 trillion, start all over -- and have the Int'l Banks (who did this in the first place) holding the bag.

I'm not buying those magical figures. But even if it is true, this is merely income redistribution and skimming from consumers and businesses (who pay higher prices ) that wind up in govt coffers.

The People weren't the ones who promised the "$2000"; It was the Trump Admin.
And btw -- how many hundreds of billions have been stolen outright from America taxpayers to subsidize the war in Ukraine and MIC? Israel? The 50 million illegals room & board?

What tariff check? The one I won't get? Oh ok.
Posted on 11/19/25 at 8:55 am to MorbidTheClown
If these are truly tariff rebates, then it is even worse. This is rebates for post tax-dollars used to buy the everyday things made more expensive by the dumb tariffs.

Doesn't matter. You need to call this out for what it is. Straight up stupidity.

Yes Treasury, I'm sure the culcha will be saving these checks

It's a dividend payout, not a stimulus.

The administration is hopeful Americans won't necessarily spend the $2,000 tariff checks President Trump has promised, and instead pump them into "Trump accounts" for kids, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says.
How is this senile old man still scamming us? Trump accounts?

70% of our debt is held domestically:

A National Bureau of Economic Research study found that 40% of the 2020 CARES Act stimulus payments under Trump were spent, 30% used to pay down debt, and 30% saved.
Way better than I and apparently everyone in this thread expected.
If you give this to poors, saving it will be low, but paying bills might be pretty high.
