found the guy who named his kid braxden

but seriously. these shitty names reflect an increasingly trashy society, in much the same way that tiktok videos and tide pod challenges do. Statistically speaking, a kid with an X in his name is more likely to die eating a Tide pod than a kid with a traditional name. It's a cause for concern.

To me, it's Postmodernism. Basically, there are no rules. There's no good or bad anymore, just a pastiche of crap people select from.

Like pirates; pirates are objectively terrible people. It's not just an aesthetic about parrots and earrings, piracy is rape, theft, and murder. And yet we have "International Talk Like a Pirate Day," children's shows about pirates, etc.

If you're the sort of person who read my last paragraph and though, "that's retarded- WTF do pirates have to do with anything?" then you're free to name your kid Jaysinn or Graveleigh or whatever. Just grab some consonants and vowels and shove them into something potentially unique.

If you're not this sort of person, you'll probably pick a family name, or one from the Bible, or one that otherwise somehow says something about what you believe or admire, or what's important to you.

And if you think it’s just a southern travel ball thing, check out Fullerton’s roster.

The elusive Jaxon still missing though. They got close.

Well, I guess we should go ahead and cancel the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It's unfortunate I didn't know about this board prior to the birth of my twin boys, Maysyn and Dixyn.

So, you're saying that travel ball works to improve a player's skills?

probably more like a pyramid scheme, families that might have the best athletes are either priced out of it, or are maybe disgusted by the BS and politics of it all, and choose to not sacrifice the entire family's structure for the sake of whatever benefit it's supposed to be for Braxton

I don't get the hate for these names. It's like these threads attract all the ot poors to come together to make fun of the ot upper middle class. It's fricking sad.

This is great because I've always suspected working class whites choose these names because they want to seem upper middle class. Thanks for furthering my theory about the thinking behind these names.

You and so many are fricking stupid. Most teams cost between 1-2k plus 300 or so in uniforms.

If you cant afford it, its not hard to get a sponsor or to ask the team about a fund raising event. Almost every team does some form of fundraising.

But lets say you have an 8 year old and you pay 1k plus uniforms(350ish) and the team has 11 players. So 11k reserve

The coach will make about 250 a month for 10 months. Thats 2500 gone. down to 8500.

Orgnization usually takes about the same, so down to 6k.

Lets say you do 12 tournaments(2 fall ball, 10 spring) that cost on average $200 per(cost more as they get older) just to enter. So now we are down to 3600.

Lets say you only win one game in each of those tournaments so you play 4 on average. Thats 48 games in the season. Each game cost somewhere between 20-40 for pay at the plate. So lets say 30 per. Thats $1,440. Down to $2100ish.

Now catchers gear is another $400. 2 Bucket of balls plus game balls for the year....around $500.

So now down to 12-1300.

that pays for hotel rooms for any of the coaches for out of town games.

Most teams in South LA, PLay in Baton Rouge, Lafayette or Nola areas. They arent traveling all over. Most play the usssa world series in Sulphur or 2d in Broussard.

They arent going crazy with the shite and travelling all over. Sure a few, less than 5 per age group do but not many. And most are not charging crazy amounts.

As they get older price goes up because the tournaments go up and they add more coaches.

Wanna critize something, critize the organizations like USSSA, 2D, and PG, they are the ones making bank. Critize the rec league parents who drive all the good coaches away with their shite arse attitude.

As someone that was a huge and I mean huge advocate of rec ball and very anti travel ball until last year....frick them people. I put up with it for a long time, dedicating my time to those kids only to watch parents treat me and my wife like shite, watch parents act like my time didn't matter and it was only something to do if nothing better was going on. Watched parents bitch while I couldn't beg people to coach or even help.

frick the whiny arse poor and minority kids. Those parents were the same ones growing up that made fun of kids paying attention in school, now they want to whine about ......my poor kid is getting left behind because we can't afford it, we'll frick em...now it's my turn to make fun of them for being poor.

I still give hours a week to the tball league, anything above that, they can frick off. 7-8 the parents become unbearable. Yes I'm jaded and bitter as I gave everything I could to so many and still do and all I have heard and seen is bitching especially on Facebook, yet I can't find coaches every year. All from people that can't even spell baseball much less tell you how to properly field, throw or bat. frick em.

maybe 3-4 of those are "travel ball names"

ETA:
Gavin, Dylan, Cade, Devin, Brooks are super old Gaelic and European names. They may be popular among "travel ball" but it doesnt change the fact that they are centuries old names.

So is Brody. Scottish Gaelic. Been handed down in families for hundreds of years.
