Well, what is a "normal" name?

I want to know the etymology of the name I pick for my kids. What is the origin of the name? Does it appear in history books, or in literature, or in the Bible? What does it mean? Most of these names have no etymology and no meaning. The white chick just liked the way it sounds.

One thing I hate is people giving their kid a first name which is actually somebody else's surname. Family names are great, if it's actually from your family. So Collier might be a good or a bad name.... we need to know about his family tree to make the call.

This one doesn't fit with the travel ball names IMO... more of a family name.

Exactly. That name has been around my area since before I was born.

You and so many are fricking stupid. Most teams cost between 1-2k plus 300 or so in uniforms.

If you cant afford it, its not hard to get a sponsor or to ask the team about a fund raising event. Almost every team does some form of fundraising.

But lets say you have an 8 year old and you pay 1k plus uniforms(350ish) and the team has 11 players. So 11k reserve

The coach will make about 250 a month for 10 months. Thats 2500 gone. down to 8500.

Orgnization usually takes about the same, so down to 6k.

Lets say you do 12 tournaments(2 fall ball, 10 spring) that cost on average $200 per(cost more as they get older) just to enter. So now we are down to 3600.

Lets say you only win one game in each of those tournaments so you play 4 on average. Thats 48 games in the season. Each game cost somewhere between 20-40 for pay at the plate. So lets say 30 per. Thats $1,440. Down to $2100ish.

Now catchers gear is another $400. 2 Bucket of balls plus game balls for the year....around $500.

So now down to 12-1300.

that pays for hotel rooms for any of the coaches for out of town games.

Most teams in South LA, PLay in Baton Rouge, Lafayette or Nola areas. They arent traveling all over. Most play the usssa world series in Sulphur or 2d in Broussard.

They arent going crazy with the shite and travelling all over. Sure a few, less than 5 per age group do but not many. And most are not charging crazy amounts.

As they get older price goes up because the tournaments go up and they add more coaches.

Wanna critize something, critize the organizations like USSSA, 2D, and PG, they are the ones making bank. Critize the rec league parents who drive all the good coaches away with their shite arse attitude.

As someone that was a huge and I mean huge advocate of rec ball and very anti travel ball until last year....frick them people. I put up with it for a long time, dedicating my time to those kids only to watch parents treat me and my wife like shite, watch parents act like my time didn't matter and it was only something to do if nothing better was going on. Watched parents bitch while I couldn't beg people to coach or even help.

frick the whiny arse poor and minority kids. Those parents were the same ones growing up that made fun of kids paying attention in school, now they want to whine about ......my poor kid is getting left behind because we can't afford it, we'll frick em...now it's my turn to make fun of them for being poor.

I still give hours a week to the tball league, anything above that, they can frick off. 7-8 the parents become unbearable. Yes I'm jaded and bitter as I gave everything I could to so many and still do and all I have heard and seen is bitching especially on Facebook, yet I can't find coaches every year. All from people that can't even spell baseball much less tell you how to properly field, throw or bat. frick em.

You'd hate a lot of our family names then. There are a lot of first names that were surnames of grandparents etc... All are legitimate family names and great names, but they were surnames initially. We look at it as honoring those family members.

You misread my comment. That is a commendable way to name kids... after family members. Fully support. (Provided they are actually from your family.)

As is Ty. It's generally short for Tyler.

Yes, I thought you meant you didn't like any surnames as first names.

We do have a few kids whose middle names are after extremely close family friends. Wouldn't matter to me if they were surnames used as first names. I like names that have a history, story or a meaning, but it's up to parents to choose the names of their children. My opinion doesn't really matter. I just keep it to myself if the names are strange.

I judge anyone without a Biblical or Anglo/Scottish first name.
