I’ve wondered why is travel baseball so big but you don’t see the same stuff for basketball or football.

You’d think a 7 on 7 summer travel football league would be popular. Make Jaxson the next QB star

You serious?

Lil Zane will be burnt out on baseball by the time he reaches 9th grade.

I have a co-worker who has two children in travel ball. He spends $1600 per each kid for a six week season. And that doesn't cover the $400 customized bat carrier bag with monogrammed stitching.

I love travel ball threads.

Mostly I love travel ball parents getting all defensive in them.

well i been around it for 4+ years and 99.99% of the BS spewed here is just that. Maybe its because we are playing at a majors level and we dont play weak usssa tournaments, but in general TD is out in left field when it comes to travel ball

also delusional AF to think their kid is gonna play rec ball until 13 and then go make a HS team. fricking laughable.

It is really unfortunate that travel ball is the new norm, but if you're kid has any ounce of talent, you are pretty much forced to this now days. Rec ball has gotten so bad.

I certainly don't think my kid is going pro, but at the same time he's been really good his entire baseball career, so much like lsu777, I don't want to make that decision for him.

If you're basing your decisions on whether to sign your kid up for something or not (could be chess club who cares) based upon things you want to enjoy in your life.... Then I'd say you are a pretty selfish person and need to take a look within about what is important to you.

For me, it's my kids and always will be. I've had plenty of good times in my life, but now it's all about what makes them happy.

I get it that you're a travel ball zealot, I respect your posts in non-travel ball related subjects but I just 100% respectfully disagree with your takes on this subject, as I'm I'm sure you do mine

same stuff for basketball

ever heard of AAU?

football is different, its almost a pure athletic sport with much less skill involved other than qb but you are seing the qb camps etc popping up too.

soccer is pure club at upper levels too.

Same here. When my kids were playing ball, my summers were for them. Lots of quality time together.

I think one of the less frequently talked about aspects of travel ball is the parents getting to hang out as a group. Unless your kid is uber talented you're probably doing all of this "traveling" in a metro or regional area and are using it as a way to hang out with other adults on the weekends. Killing two birds with one stone.

There is the same thing going on with basketball and football, but posters here don't really fall into that demographic lol.

no i respect your post on it, they are almost my exact thoughts 5 years ago. but like mine where, they are coming from a place of ignorance and you are naive just like i was

i dont neccessarly like where the game has evolved too....but it is what it is if you want to make the team of a good hs program in south louisiana.

some places in texas and few other select places are different because they have multiple fields and multiple staffs for each team(freshman, jv, varsity) and can afford to keep 75 kids in the program, but that is at schools with 3500 kids, so still competitive AF.

when a school like the 4 in the 5a semi finals only take 10 freshman max....yea good luck making the team while playing rec and not taking private lessons or lifting.....good luck with that.

Daughter played travel ball since 8u. All the tournaments were like mini vacations. Lots of memories. Some of the best times of our lives. No burn out here. went on to play 4 years of D1 ball. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Also have two other kids. One older one younger. Oldest was before travel ball. Youngest plays but still enjoys the camping, fishing scene as well.

what you mean?

plenty of people here think you can play rec and still make a HS team and even more think you can wait until 13 after little league to start travel and still have a shot to make a good hs team.

its laughably naive.
