2019 – 119 murders

2018 – 146 murders

2017 – 157 murders

2016 – 173 murders

The NOPD says part of the reason is because they've been targeting repeat violent offenders along with their state and federal law enforcement partners.

But, along with that, there's another factor at play.

The Level I Trauma Center at University Medical Center takes victims with life-threatening trauma. And its records show, when it comes to serious gun shot wounds from assaults in Orleans Parish alone, over the last eight years the medical team is saving between 80 and 90 percent of the victims.

80-90 percent is an impressive stat. Would be good know what this number was before they opened the Trauma Center.

Id also be interested to see how they classify different crimes on a total percent basis compared to other major cities. Like 5% of violent crimes are X.
I'd be willing to bet there's some manipulation going on

Of course the medical care helps a little, but it’s still a good trend overall for several years. You can’t attribute it all to bad aim and better hospitals. LOL

Can we send our trauma center to our troops in the Middle East to save more productive members of society?

A lot of the ER docs these days came from military backgrounds and cut their teeth in Iraq and Afghanistan. The survival rates there have been a dramatic leap over Vietnam, which was a dramatic leap over WW2.

A lot of those ER docs got addicted to the rush of severe IED and GSW trauma. So after their military service was up, they moved to major inner cities where they can handle the same types of cases.

Tldr: Nola is like tribal warfare

Medical has helped a good bit, but also the reality is that 10 individuals have been taken off the streets or killed, and that group was responsible for 40-60 a year.

Note that we saw this once before, when 3NG and the 110ers were rounded up. Murders dropped quick, but then other people filled those same corners within two years and they shot back up.

If there's no piece to divert younger people from getting into the life (i.e. Not letting them plunder Lakeview unchecked) you aren't solving the problem.

When you see enough of them you’re bound to get better at treating them.

Less male "souljas" on the street as well. Graph shows percent of adults vs children in New Orleans.
This data only goes to 2010, but I'm sure the trend has not changed.
