I’m the head mechanic for a GM dealership, 130k miles, any dealership is going to sell you a new trans and drop and swap, most likely torque converter came loose and metal is all inside the transmission. What I been doing for my side jobs, is drop them out… rebuild them put a better converter in, smash them back in… I just did one 2 weeks ago for someone parts labor everything was like 2800.00

You should be reported. To GM and local government. No occupational licensing I presume and not collecting sales tax. Neither of the above referenced entities would like that too much.

Being he’s the head mechanic at a GM shop, it would seem a conflict.

Make sure they check the torque converter before replacing the transmission. Pretty common problem with GMCs.

I just sold a Mercury Grand Marquis with close to 300K miles and never a transmission problem. And people laugh at Ford products.

Newer Fords are becoming problematic. They shifted a lot of manufacturing south of the border along with GM and have taken a dive on quality.

I used to drive Fords, but I bought a 10 year old Honda in 2020 to get out of the endless car payment cycle. I used to buy a new vehicle every 5 years. The Honda is running like a beast. I did have an alternator go out a few weeks ago, but I changed it myself in about 2 hours. I looked at the date code on the old alternator. It was the original one in there. I am at 230,000 miles on the Honda. I do have some issues with it burning a little oil from the piston rings issue that affects most newer vehicles because of their reliance on such light oils and the design of the engine to make it more fuel efficient.

No we don’t.

We laugh at the people who buy them.

The GM transmissions come with a 3 yr 100k parts and labor warranty. It’s hard to beat. They are basically a new transmission with everything being replaced new, not just what was wrong.
