Couple things ol boy needs to understand
1. Just like people with tattoos take the risk of being perceived a certain way by others, those who either change their sex or pretend to be another need to realize their risk of impacting the public's perception as well. People, especially in the service industry, will instinctively call someone "sir" or "ma'am" based on how you look. That's the way it is, the way it should be, and the way it always will be.
2. Being called the "correct" gender is NOT a civil right. Unless the store was specifically denying him service because of his mental condition, he can frick right off.

Actually, we need to stop doing a disservice to these people. We should refer to them exactly as what they are all the time, and not play into this stupid mindset. He should have been and was correctly referred to as sir. If anything, reprimand the employee for calling him ma'am towards the end, but he was just doing his job and trying to deescalate a bad situation with a person in need of some help.

Honest question. How the frick are we supposed to know the gender?

It’s like he wants us to look at his clothes and assume he is a woman. Isn’t that what they are against? “Gender roles”. They won’t be happy unless we can read everyone’s mind at any given second of the day to know if they are feeling like a man or a woman.
