Those trains haul arse through that area, but still I do not understand how you cannot see it coming soon enough to not get hit by one.

Me too...i don't even want to imagine what I would do or how I would react.. They always told us when we hired out that it's not if but when it'll happen.

will insurance total the r-rover or will they send it to a preferred body shop for repair?

That's because Louisiana has some of the least educated, idiots is country. Third to MS and AL of course.

I know accidents happen, but how does someone get hit by a train. In order to get hit, the train has to be pretty close to the crossing. And not having a railing isn't an excuse. Trains slow down driving through the city of Plaquemine then start to speed up on their way to white castle so its possible the train was still in the process of speeding up, but that would not have played a factor.

People just don't like to wait a few minutes for a train to pass by and would rather risk getting hit than waiting, which I don't understand.

Think you mean the car has to be pretty close to the crossing.. Or on top of it..

Do you really NEED these..? Just fricking pay attention, don't stop on tracks, and don't try and beat out the train. Pretty hard to miss a train. Especially when they're sitting there blaring their horn

I read that the human brain has a hard time processing something that big moving that fast, so you think a train is moving slower than it really is.

Speed limit is 20mph through there.

White Castle

Speed limit is 55mph through there, if I recall correctly.

so its possible the train was still in the process of speeding up

You're talking about a 10 mile or so stretch of rail, it was likely already at it's max speed for the track.

60 is max but certain trains are reduced

a lot of shitty drivers who don't stop and look.

Trains go fast, but not that fast.

I stop at all RR crossings regardless of arms or not.

I don't understand how people get hit by trains, it's not like the train swerves at the last minute to hit a car.

why it's a marked crossing, bless the dead, but c'mon man. whenever a train hits anyone it's never the train's fault. Lets be honest with ourselves.

No, I think he meant the train has to be close.

If the train were far you would be able to cross without it hitting you.

I feel bad for the conductor. it wasn't his fault, but he has to live with killing 2 human beings the rest of his life. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night even though there was nothing I could do to prevent it

I saw on a news app these people on their way to attend
a funeral, how ironic and sad.
