No, however earnings do include all income.

Electrician median pay is $54,110 according to google.
That's not great for a trade.
Plenty of careers with better pay and better advancement opportunity that require less/no schooling

Union scale starts more than 30/hr.
The one area unions excel is journeymen for various trades.
Labor stats usually paint with a broad brush (like Banker) when looking at pay and breaking down categories. The guy going to Devry and working in a factory isn't exactly as skilled as journeymen

A union journeyman equipment operator makes the same with little or no schooling. A union journeyman electrical/telecommunication lineworker makes about 50 an hour with no schooling.

Agree
We need more skilled workers, not just workers. I think anyone who invests time learning a subject or skill will have a better quality of life than those who don't. High school grads don't have much room for opportunity without enhancing themselves either academically ot occupationally.
In the end, find something that's a good fit for you

Then a lot of parents are doing their child a disservice. Most high school graduates have a GPA less than 3.0, have not taken mathematics of any rigor, have little command of the English language, read at a grade school level, and have standardized test scores that show they are not prepared to attend college. They will go to college anyway and become part of the 60% that start college, and never finish. Their parents should have told them to forget about college and learn a skill that will pay the bills if they want have a chance of surviving in today's world.

I think the idea is that you don't have to be a genius to do it and you can make a very nice living.
I encourage kids to embrace STEM fields myself...but I think trade school is more profitable than the vast majority of soft subjects in school.

Every single bit of this us true.
Doesn't change the social stigma that is put on those kids, and their parents, when they elect not to go to college.
