Supercells and tornados need two things. Lift and spin. Cliffs is the spin in the atmosphere allows the updraft to drop the rain cooled air behind it and keep pulling in the warm stuff.
Typically you get that lift from the temp diff from the ground through the atmosphere (its really that warm and moist air is less dense and rise). Along the coast, you ttpically have a warmer atmosphere with height. We have a lot of "events" with not a ton of instability (lift) and a lot of turning.
Farther north, it seems like they typically have more instability to work with along with the spin we get down here.

When I was a kid in the 80s, having to wait on a bus or ride a bike to school..just remember it being or seeming consistently cold during winter months.

I'm in Madison parish and that cell that came through about 40 mins ago had 2 funnel clouds form and almost touch ground. I would post pics but I was too busy piling pillows on top of my spinal cord to take pics. Another cell is suppose to roll through here around 5PM CST.

Yeah the NWC has madison parish and the rest of the ark-la-miss under tornado watches and warnings until 9PM CST and NBC10 in Monroe said that these cells were just random pop-up cells and for those of us in the affected areas to be vigilant until atleast 9. So its going to be a longass afternoon and evening.
