What makes Mississippi and Alabama such a tornado hotbed compared with Louisiana, the Carolinas, Georgia and other southern states that don’t seem to get as many tornadoes?

I have a good friend who grew up in SoSo and her parents are still there.

Her FB update is that the first one passed north of her parents but they lost power. Flying blind on the second one.

Dixie alley


I guess it’s a perfect region where cold fronts meet gulf air. Lot of flat ground and ripe breeding areas for unstable weather.
