Got a 32 on the ACT and did 4 years at LSU. As mentioned before, people forget about the $600 in books and $5000+/semester it costs to live and eat. While the tuition being free was huge in allowing me to not get a useless degree from USL, it didn't make for free college.

if you had got a 32 on the ACT and had a decent GPA you would have received more scholarships than just free tuition

This. My ACT score of 27 got me a partial scholarship, one more point(28) would have gotten me a full scholarship (tuition/room/board/books)to NLU.

Those are exceptions to the rule

There are a lot more folks who scored low on the ACT and lasted one year or less in college.

Is this the thread where a bunch of guys that went to LSU made scores on the ACT that would've guaranteed them entrance to 98% of schools in the country ?

I got a 34 while being hungover, but chose LSU because, go tigahs, bruh.

Anything above 25-26ish is scholarship range depending upon the schools. A 3.0 and above and 32 would have had elite schools from across the country offering scholarships and admittance.

You could say the same about people with high scores. It really isn't a good measure of how well someone will do in college. GPA is better for that because it can distinguish people who work hard from people who don't

Nope. I even said I had a 2.3 is HS. Have like a 2.2 now. Got kicked out of college three times. As a whole, I'm just not a good student. Not making any of that up either

Seems like a lot of good folk on here sacrificed those 32+ ACT scores to go to a state school.

Substantial scholarships to elite schools with a 32 ACT will be few and far between.

it isn't a good measure by itself

but if you pair it with GPA, which TOPS does, then it is a decent measure

GPA doesn't account for the quality of the school. Someone can blow through a shitty high school with a 4.0 and make a 19 on the ACT. Happens all the time in Louisiana.

The ACT is an aptitude test, if you can't hack it on that, chances are you won't be able to in college. A smart kid with bad work ethic can always work harder, a low IQ kid will never get smarter.

but to LSU, he would have received the full TOP tuition scholarship, which would cover tuition and room and board

plus I'm assuming LSU would have offered some type of scholarship as well

23 and a 3.0 I think

I think that's a pretty fair standard. I wish it was uniform across the board in Louisiana.

Yeah - A 30 gets you the Chancellor's Aide scholarship which doesn't even require an essay or separate application.

I was simply commenting on the scholarship to elite school comment.

Maybe in your early classes. Unless we're talking communication or education, chances are most majors will require high level thinking in terms of writing, mathematics, sciences, etc at a certain point.

Its a good measure of their potential in college. GPA is not a good measure at all. Take a 3.0 student at Jesuit and put him in some crappy school and he will blow through it with a 4.0 without really trying. I could sleep through some public schools in LA as a teenager and get a 4.0

I dont think anyone is disputing you getting kicked out of college three times and having a 2.2 gpa. I think people are disputing that you had a 2.3 in HS, made a 32 on your ACT, and still got TOPS even though you didnt meet the minimum requirements.

Plus you have a history of lying on here so no one really believes anything you say....well besides failing out of school and being a worthless student
