Yes because doing it right after Christmas isn't a selfish move? Let me go ahead and fake my happiness through Christmas to her and everyone for that matter...then accept all of these gifts that seem to get more personal for the two of you the longer you're together...makes everyone else awkward then because they got you and her a gift that is now completely fricking worthless. I have had a break up not long after holidays before, there is no good time for a break up, but to continue to waste someone's time and live in a fake existence is just stupid. I mean really dude, wait because of a holiday? You are the selfish frick for trying to come across as less of a dick by doing such thing. You're thinking about yourself by doing that because you think everyone will see you as less of a dick by not doing it before the holiday.

If you read all of his posts, OP has known he should break up with her for a good while, but didn't do it.

Here's one of his posts about that.

quote:

quote: So, you timed this for 30 days before the end of the lease? Wow. And, during Christmas time, both of you will be looking for new digs?

OP: It's unfortunate timing, but it's really the only time to do it. Any earlier and we're stuck in a lease for much longer. Any later and our lease will be renewed for another 12 months. Trust me, I've thought long and hard about this.

I still haven't figured out how the lease gets longer than it currently is if he broke up with her earlier when he knew they shouldn't be together any longer.

He's talking about if he breaks up with her 6 months ago, he's stuck living in an apartment with his ex for 6 months longer than if he breaks up with her now, having faked the last 6 months.

He doesn't mean the actual lease would have gotten longer, he means the amount of time he would have to be in the apartment post breakup would have been longer before he's no longer financial indebted.

I think I just repeated myself but in a slightly different way. No regrets.

So, he should fake it until it becomes convenient for him to leave?

He should have packed up, found temp digs with a friend or someone, paid his half of the rent through the lease and been done with it.

December 2 does not equal "right before Christmas"

years ago, I broke up with a long time GF at the beginning of November because I simply couldn't see myself marrying her. I didn't want her to go through the expense and heartache of sharing the holidays with me only to have her heartbroken a month or so after Christmas.

It was going to hurt her no matter what but at least she didn't go through the holidays thinking things were fine.

Hey, never said he handled this the right way. I've just seen you mention not understanding what he meant by longer lease multiple times, so I tried to clarify.

Explain "lapping."

I figure it's real because I've had to breakup with two different women after 4 plus year relationships. Not that unique a situation, but the way people spill their guts on the internet we just get to read about it.

Why would you think this is fabricated?

Because the OT is apparently full of low-confidence slobs who can't imagine ever breaking up with a girl you're just not happy with in the long run.

They also don't like hearing that someone didn't just settle with whatever they had for the rest of their life like they did.

Yeah, good thing they hadn't just signed a year lease or one for more than a year. He'd have had to be living that lie for a very long time.

I'm alive. Just working. Life goes on, bills still need to get paid.

No breakup sex

No yelling or screaming

No breaking things

Just lots of tears and feels felt.

It sucks knowing that you just devastated someone who loves you. But the feelings I have now reassure me that I made the right decision. There's no feelings of regret, only pain knowing how much she's hurting. But that's not a reason to stay with someone, for fear of hurting them. That only makes things worse in the long run.

We'll both be better for it.

That's all I'm gonna say about it.
