The top earner was an officer in BRPD who reported 2,107 hours of overtime. That's the equivalent of 263 8-hour days.

One of the hardest working, honest, well respected Cops to ever wear the blue and gray.

I know it’s tough for some of you to imagine someone with this much drive, determination, and commitment, but the reality is he does exist.

Let that sink in for a minute before you make the wrong assumption.

So instead they just blow over budget with more expensive OT pay.. makes sense

Yes, it does make sense. They don’t have people to hire.

This is the OT… has anyone identified him/her? Real life info? Who knows him? Let’s get the ball rolling…

If it’s from the BR Business Report, then I’m sure there’s a paywall anyway.

Is it a captain? I know one that works his arse off, caught 700+ calls last year along with his regular duties. He's a worker.

With 365 days in a year, that is almost 6 hours of overtime per day / every day of the year. How is this possible?

I just saw the list from the business report.

If you knew that guy, you would know how it’s possible. That dude is a machine. Works is arse off…ALL THE TIME.

As a shift sergeant, he is the officer you would call first to fill a manpower opening because you know when he showed up, he was going to WORK.

Todd Bourgoyne
Captain, Uniform Patrol
Base salary: $80,608
Gross pay: $219,964
Overtime hours reported: 2,107.25

Wonder if Todd paid back the people who donated to his Gofundme? “This injury will have a serious impact on this family's financial situation so let's help them out so he can concentrate on getting well!” Old baw couldn’t get that sweet OT when we laid down his bike

Coincidentally his gofundme was during the same time he was on administrative leave, which he was later cleared of wrongdoing .

4200 hours a year is working 80 hrs a week. Does he have no family?

I’ve got nothing against cops, even willing to buy their meals when I see them, but I don’t believe any one in the US works that much.

Is this like union overtime where you are on a 12 hr shift but 4 are over time? Each day. Then when Sunday rolls around you may be on double time?

Remember that state trooper who was lying about working overtime. He’d write a bunch of tickets in 90 minutes then put the wrong time on the tickets.

They even monitor their sick and vacay hours to make sure they can roll the maximum over meaning there’s a lot of sick hour fraud as well.

How is that fraud? You want them to use the time or lose it? Either way they are taking the time.

You can’t use sick time as vacation time, that’s fraud. This is standard. You can’t take sick time to go to Destin, sorry.

Different rules apply to the rollovers.

Also remember the employee can take a couple thousand hours and push into their pension so they like to rack up those hours.

Also, keep in mind all these employees unless they signed paperwork or opt out will be on your dime until they die. So the more over employed the better for government workers. You are subsidizing life after work as well as not all those jobs are needed, we just have them.

Ok
No one is working 13hr days 365 days in a row. Even if he took 2 weeks off throughout the year, it’s still not something that is doable for an entire year. No one is going to work at 6am and working until 8pm every single day.

How do you know that they are doing that? I'm not saying that it doesn't happenIf we use sick time we lose overtime worked in that pay period.

Police might have different rules for calling out sick.

And you kind of contradicted yourself. Do they use all of their time or do they bank it for an 'earlier retirement'?

Yes I know about the retirement...you will be paying for mine.

Threads like this always humor me, because if you combine the two opposing sides, the picture should click together for you.

Yes, massive OT numbers are a standard perk for veteran BRPD officers.

Yes, there is a lot of OT to go around because they are understaffed.

If you pull the compensation data, OT numbers are basically linear with years on the force. The more veteran, the more hours of OT. It’s desired. Which means two things: your vets don’t actually want anything to happen that will frick with their six figure salaries and young guys don’t make shite because base pay is low and they can’t get much in the way of OT because the vets are eating it up.

Which means you have very few new recruits, because the money is shite. Rinse and repeat.

If you start talking about increasing base pay and cutting back on OT, or spreading OT out more evenly, you’ll hear the same kind of screeching you hear when you pitch increasing server pay but getting rid of tips.
