Watching Breaking Bad (rewatch actually) got me thinking about if you had a ton of cash and couldn’t effectively launder it, what would you be able to do with it and evade suspicion? As far as paying cash goes:
Groceries, especially choice items like steak, lobster.
Home products, minor appliances and furnishings.
Clothes.
Vacations.

Is it safe to say just about anything except buying real property, cars, major renovations, expenses over a certain amount?

Assuming all that is true seems like you’d be able to live a pretty high life so long as you had a decent/well paying job to provide the legit front money for home, auto and other.

Input?

Groceries?

So in your mind you have so much illegal cash that you can’t launder it quick enough, but you still buying your own groceries? Headed down to Albertsons with the list in your hand every Saturday morning type of schedule?

The Russians just use real estate in the United States, apparently.

Laundering is mostly for appeasing friends, family, and acquaintances. There's too much money and too many rich people for the IRS to monitor everyone, assuming you stay reasonable with your purchases and way of life.

Having any sort of job would be generally be enough to avoid suspicion. Buy normal shite, file auditable taxes, etc.

You could probably spend 40-50k on gas and high end groceries in a year. You could launder a million dollars over 20 years that way without too much risk. Any more than that and you'd attract IRS attention. They have economists who estimate what kind of lifestyle you can afford on a stated income.

You could bury it somewhere, take up a treasure hunting hobby, go out with your metal detector and "find" it.

This is what happened to that NYC couple (Ilya Lichtenstein/Heather Morgan). The bitcoin they stole was originally worth around $70 million but increased in value to $4.5 billion and they had big trouble laundering all the money.

The thought is to eliminate as many third parties as possible, like people buying groceries for you.

Go to the casino enough to establish you’re a regular, bringing cash, then take out second mortgage on your home, and then after a few months “win” big at the casino, then go back to pay off mortgage and say how lucky you were, when depositing the winnings bc you almost gambled the mortgage money and then check yourself into rehab for a so called gambling problem to evade any suspicion ….

There should be enough winnings there to start buying up real estate in Florida, just don’t go buy a Lambo or brag to anyone

Start cash businesses.

Bars, nail salons, dry cleaners. Inflate the books with your cash. Be willing to lose about 30% by paying a sufficient amount of taxes.

Pretty sure cartels accept a 50% attrition rate as a success (or at least they did at some point)

That’s kinda the starting point just curious as to other possibilities.

Yeah but if you’re not “on the radar” they wouldn’t be going through your pantry and closets.

Seems like an excellent idea.

I seem to remember some dude, maybe Mafia, getting busted because his inventory purchases didn't come anywhere near his claimed income.
