Today's Italy update; 743 deaths in the past 24hrs.

Date: Mar 24, 2020 – 06:39 p.m.
The daily death toll in Italy has surged to 743, following a decline in fatalities for the past two days, which authorities had cautiously celebrated. On Monday 602 died, while on Sunday 650 died. The total death count is now 6,820.
Tuesday’s numbers are still less than the 793 who died on Saturday, the highest death toll since COVID-19 emerged.
The increase in the rate of overall cases on Tuesday was similar to previous days: a rise of 8.2% from 63,176 to 69,176.
On Tuesday the rate of recoveries also rose from 7,432 to 8,326.
Coronavirus Cases: 69,176
Deaths: 6,820
Recovered: 8,326
Active Cases: 54,030 – Currently Infected Patients
Closed Cases: 15,146 – Cases which had an outcome

so everyone posting Louisiana vs Italy numbers are saying we will have 600-800 deaths a day within next week or so?

The amount of time we are behind Italy is a moving target. It depends greatly on what makes the trends match up.
Yesterday we were matching Italy's curve for total cases and everyone was shouting it from the rooftops. Today we are far behind and those trends are suddenly missing.

it depends, but right now we are 10 days behind when Italy reached 800 deaths total and had started logging between 150-200~ per day

Yeah, my takeaway is that this is what flattening the curve looks like when you implement those measures while the spike is happening instead of well beforehand. Cases can even out, but the case outcomes are still going to happen, and right now the medical system in Italy is overtaxed and will be until the cases continue to decline and those being treated recover or die.
I think this is a valuable lesson, but not necessarily anything that can be used as a prediction for the US (we're X days behind, etc.).

Our city is 28 days past the tail end of mardi gras. I just don't think we see that same continuance of abundance of numbers.

Yeah people need to stop with that.
Italy is showing us what would've happened if we acted later than we did, but not quite worst case scenario.

The compared equivalent for Italy’s ~800 deaths/day in Louisiana would be ~60, based strictly on Italy’s much larger population.
